ACT! FOR CANADA NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 7, 2013
“They
wrote in the old days that it is sweet and fitting
to die
for one's country. But in modern war,
there is
nothing sweet nor fitting in your dying.
You will
die like a dog for no good reason.”
~ Ernest Hemingway ~
The Road to Damascus
Forget the Grand Prix or the Daytona 500, the
real race right now is the race to Damascus. The racers include Syrian rebels
in pickup trucks with mounted machine guns and homemade tanks, toting weapons
and equipment supplied and paid for by Qatar and Turkey, and more covertly by
the British and French intelligence services. Racing along with them are
carloads of international diplomats urging their governments to give the
militias more money and more weapons.
Did
the White House Help Plan the Syrian Chemical Attack?
On August 20, 2012, President Obama issued his now famous “red
line” comment regarding Syria and the use of chemical weapons. Use of such
weapons, Obama said at the time, would be a “game changer”. Exactly a year
later, Syrian government forces allegedly use chemical weapons to kill nearly
1,500 Syrian civilians. Why would Assad do this? From a strategic point of
view, why would he take action that invites — almost demands — Obama to take
military action against him when he is in the middle of a violent civil war?
Liberal
Hypocrisy in Iraq and Syria
Ten years ago, James Clapper, now the Director
of National Intelligence, said he was “unquestionably sure” that Saddam’s WMDs
had been moved out of Iraq. Top Iraqi generals stated that the WMDs had gone to
Syria. But all that fell on deaf ears. In 2002, a minor Chicago politician with
a funny name achieved an undeserved level of prominence with a speech declaring
we should not attack Iraq because “Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat
to the United States”, “the Iraqi economy is in shambles” and “the Iraqi
military (is) a fraction of its former strength” and advised that instead
Saddam “be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away
into the dustbin of history.”
Recognizing
the Wrong People
It is high time we stopped
empowering those who wish us ill: not just to recognize a blood-soaked regime,
but to keep on recognizing it. Any decision to deploy U.S. military force
beyond a punishing strike against the specific Syrian base and military unit
that carried out this chemical weapons atrocity must take into consideration
the consequences of an al-Qa'eda and Muslim Brotherhood victory in the Syrian
civil war
Security expert
David Harris joins Jerry Agar to discuss the disturbing trend of home grown
extremists and Canadian involvement in violence abroad.

Arab Spring: Death to humanity
The Arab Spring erupted in many Arab
countries, from Tunisia to Libya and from Egypt to Syria. I also have no fond
sentiment for Tunisia’s Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak and his
sons, Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh, Libya’s Muammar Qaddafi and Syria’s Bashar
Assad, but I wasn’t optimistic about the outcome of their departure. Yet I have
always maintained that the Arab Spring was dead on arrival although I have the
highest respect for people’s demands for better living standards, social
equality, freedom to think and ask questions and to eradicate corruption.
Islam's Choice
As America and Europe contemplate yet another
intervention, this time in Syria, we might pause to reflect on what Muslims
should be doing. Only Muslims can save Islam from itself. Every day that Arabs
avoid responsibility is another day that Islam postpones maturity.
In Israel, a Rosh Hashanah of Apples and Gas Masks
Apart from Rosh Hashanah having come so early this year, the
run-up to it had a special character for another reason. The gas attack in
Syria, possibility of a U.S. strike, and possibility of a Syrian (or other)
“retaliation” against Israel have had people—that is, those who don’t already
have gas masks—standing in long, sometimes unruly queues to obtain them
The Imam who Defected: Extremists run all
Danish Mosques
The truth is that there is not a single mosque or Muslim
organization in Denmark that is not run by Islamists. As soon as you enter the
house of the believers, you are met with Islamism whether you want it or not.
As soon as you become a devoted Muslim, you are infected by extremism, says

Obama's
Snooping Excludes Mosques, Missed Boston Bombers
Before mosques were excluded from the otherwise wide domestic spy
net the administration has cast, the FBI launched dozens of successful sting
operations against homegrown jihadists — inside mosques — and disrupted dozens
of plots against the homeland. If only they were allowed to continue, perhaps
the many victims of the Boston Marathon bombings would not have lost their
lives and limbs.
The Dangerous Lie of the
Hijab
A former Muslim woman once wrote: “The Hijab or the
Islamic veil has nothing to do with modesty or to be compared with the
Christian nun’s veils as Muslim liars pretend. The hijab is all about
sex. A woman in Islam is a taboo, a source of ‘Fitnah’ to men; I mean
here a source of perpetual seduction to men to do sins by desiring her and
making love to her. That’s why a Muslim woman must cover herself from head to
toes to protect men from sin….That’s an insult to both men and women alike”.
