Charlie Hebdo: Al-Qaeda chief who claimed responsibility for Paris killings 'dies in US airstrike'

Nasser bin Ali Al-Ansi's death has been announced by a jihadist monitoring group

Killed: The terror chief was killed in a US airstrike

The Al-Qaeda chief who claimed responsibility for the Charlie Hebdo attacks has reportedly been killed in a US airstrike.
Nasser bin Ali Al-Ansi is said to have died in the airstrike alongside his eldest son and other senior fighters.
His death was announced by a jihadist monitoring group, citing an official Al-Qaeda announcement.
It is thought that he died on either April 21 or 22 in Al Mukalla, southern Yemen.
The strike, thought to have been carried out by US drones, bombed a vehicle which killed six militants.

In a video released by the Yemeni branch of Al-Qaeda in the wakes of the Charlie Hebdo attacks, Al-Ansi said: "As for the blessed Battle of Paris, we, the Organisation of al Qaeda al Jihad in the Arabian Peninsula, claim responsibility for this operation as vengeance for the Messenger of God.
In an 11-minute video he warned that the killings marked "a new turning point in the history of confrontation".
He added: "Those wounds have not healed and they won't, be it in Paris, New York or Washington or in London or Spain, or in Palestine the legend of glory and pride."

He described the Charlie Hebdo gunmen Said and Cherif Kouachi as "heroes of Islam" while pictures of their victims were screened in the background before adding: "It was tawfeeq from Allah that the operation coincided with the operation Mujahid brother Ahmed Koulibali [Amedy Coulibaly] - may have Allah have mercy on him."
Al-Ansi has encourged would-be jihadists to carry out atrocities on many occasions.
In a previous video, he said: "If he is capable to wage individual jihad in the Western countries that fight Islam - such as America, Britain, France, Canada and others of the countries that represent the head of disbelief in waging war against Islam ... if he is capable of that, then that is better and more harmful.
"But if that is impossible, and he is able to serve his brothers on the front lines, then let him immigrate, for it is better.
"We are preparing and lurking for the enemies of Allah. We incite the believers to do that."
