UANI Statement on Nokia Siemens's Decision to Pullback from Iran

Wallace, issued the following statement today regarding Nokia Siemens Networks's decision to reduce its current business in Iran and stop seeking new business there. We applaud Nokia Siemens for following Huawei and pulling back from Iran, and we call on Nokia Siemens to follow this important first step by eventually ending all business there. The Iranian regime has used Nokia Siemens technology to track citizens and crack down on protesters, and should under no circumstances receive future products from Nokia Siemens. It is particularly significant to see Nokia Siemens cite international sanctions as the main reason for this decision. The sanctions the U.S. and its allies have implemented are clearly working, and Iran is becoming more and more isolated from the world economy. Companies everywhere, including even China, continue to show that Iran will soon be completely off limits to international businesses unless the regime changes course. UANI has been calling on Nokia Siemens to pull out of Iran for over a year, and led a public pressure campaign against the Finish-German venture. Nokia Siemens's decisions follow a similar one last week by the Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei, which after extensive discussions with UANI announced that it would no longer seek new business in Iran.
