PHILADELPHIA – The Middle East Forum is pleased to announce the appointment of Daniel Huff as director of the Legal Project. Mr. Huff succeeds Brooke Goldstein who led the Project since 2007.

Dedicated to providing legal aid for anti-Islamist researchers and activists in danger of having their free speech curtailed, the Legal Project assists with litigation costs, arranges for pro bono counsel, and works with policymakers to publicize and address this growing threat.

Mr. Huff served as counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee to Ranking Member Arlen Specter, handling a number of national security, civil, and criminal matters. One of his priorities as committee staff was the Free Speech Protection Act designed to combat "libel tourism," the practice of intimidating U.S. authors by suing them for libel in foreign jurisdictions less protective of free speech rights.

Prior to his work in Washington, Mr. Huff was a management consultant with McKinsey & Co. in New York City. A member of the New York Bar, he is a graduate of Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar. He holds an undergraduate degree in mathematics, economics and history from the University of Toronto.

Middle East Forum director Daniel Pipes welcomed Mr. Huff, observing that he brings "a unique blend of legal, business, and political experience instrumental to our efforts."

Explaining his enthusiasm for the position, Mr. Huff cited the Supreme Court's statement that those "who won our independence believed… the path of safety lies in the opportunity to discuss freely supposed grievances and proposed remedies." Mr. Huff adds, "That is precisely why our enemies are resorting to lawsuits to suppress information about radical Islam, and why they must not succeed."
