Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu took aim at
Iran on Tuesday, saying the Islamic Republic is responsible for
"darkness descending" on the Middle East by building an
anti-Israel empire... "We must stop Iran, we will stop Iran,"
he said. Netanyahu renewed his attack on the 2015 Iran nuclear deal,
saying it had made the world more dangerous. And, he praised
President Donald Trump for threatening to withdraw from the accord if
it isn't toughened.
UANI IN THE NEWS
Iran's Islamic revolutionaries criticize each other
regularly, but recently the level of invective among the ruling elite
has reached new heights. The vicious infighting between President
Hassan Rouhani and his detractors now threatens the governing edifice
of the Islamic Republic. Given the clerical regime's aggressive
foreign policy and nuclear ambitions, it is in America's interest to
see this power struggle intensify.
BUSINESS RISK
Russian oil companies could sign contracts with Iran by
March 21 that would allow them to work on Iranian oilfields, Russia's
Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Tuesday. Novak also said Iran
was ready to supply crude oil to Russia but that would depend on
future agreements with the buyers of the oil.
FOREIGN AFFAIRS
At first glance, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's
recent visit to India made news for all the right reasons. The
three-day tour Feb 15-17, his first state visit to India, revolved
around furthering economic engagement between the two countries. The
optics were great, and the announcements following his
"substantive talks" with Indian Prime Minister Narendra
Modi received praise. Close observers would have noted, however, that
the visit did not break new ground. Rather, it laid bare the reality
that both sides are hedging their bets based on the potential exit of
the United States from the major powers' nuclear deal with Iran.
