Jordanian Muslim CIA Informant, Searching For Ayman Zawahiri, Kills His CIA Handlers

Jordanian Muslim CIA Informant, Searching For Ayman Zawahiri, Kills His CIA Handlers

I told you in a prior posting that I worked as a cop in Colorado for about twenty years. I was a detective for eight years and worked with my fair share of informants.

The one informant during my career that I arranged for release from jail on a personal recognizance bond, a man who provided information that enabled me to make an arrest and head off the contract murder of the sole eye witness to another murder, later used a hatchet to kill an innocent victim. The informant, who committed this crime while out on the bond I arranged for him through the District Attorney’s Office, is now doing life without parole.

There was nothing in his background to suggest that he had any violent tendencies and the information he gave me was what police officers call “solid”. That was a terrible lesson for me to learn, and I was not a rookie cop at the time. I had been on the job for about eighteen years.

So, I could not help being drawn to this Washington Post story by Joby Warren and Peter Finn, which deals with C.I.A. informant and Jordanian Muslim physician Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi. The Post reports that al-Balawi was working as a double agent, tasked with helping to locate the Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahiri, also a physician and, by the way, the second-in-command of al-Qaida.

Al-Balawi was allowed to walk unsearched onto a C.I.A. outpost base in Afghanistan last week where he detonated an explosive charge large enough to kill himself, seven C.I.A. operatives and injure six others. Al-Balawi was trusted to walk into the base to carry out his highest calling as a Muslim – dying in an act of violent jihad and killing Infidels.

What particularly caught my attention was the headline of the Post Story:

“Suicide bomber who attacked CIA post in Afghanistan was trusted informant from Jordan

From the Post report comes this:

“The suicide bomber who killed seven CIA operatives in Afghanistan last week was a Jordanian informant who lured intelligence officers into a trap by promising new information about al-Qaeda’s top leadership, former U.S. government officials said Monday.

The attacker, a physician-turned-mole, had been recruited to infiltrate al-Qaeda’s senior circles and had gained the trust of his CIA and Jordanian handlers with a stream of useful intelligence leads, according to two former senior officials briefed on the agency’s internal investigation. His track record as an informant apparently allowed him to enter a key CIA post without a thorough search, the sources said.”

Informants, also known as “snitches”, are basically traitors to their friends. They are sometimes masters of playing both ends of the fight against the middle. This is dangerous work on several different levels for police detectives. Working with snitches is a very unsavory business and they should never be completely trusted by the officer.

Add the dynamics of a rugged outpost in a war zone, Islam, jihad, a World War, and the work becomes even more dangerous for the C.I.A. “handler” of informants, or moles, as they are sometimes called.

Informants very seldom have altruistic motives. They always want something – revenge against a friend with whom they’ve had some sort of falling out, money, or a break on another pending criminal charge. Sometimes they’re working for both sides.

This informant was a jihadi who concealed his true intent to the last.

As Robert Spencer of www.jihadwatch.org has said so many times, it is impossible to tell when a seemingly peaceful, trustworthy Muslim will answer the call to kill Infidels.

With this deception combined with all the expected lies of a standard informant and it becomes clear that this will not be the last time a “trusted” source of intelligence ends up committing an act of terrorism.
