

The
federal holiday, enacted in Washington, D.C., in 1879 and expanded to
include all federal employees in 1885, is actually Washington's Birthday.
His last
words were "Tis well" as his wife Martha was by his side as he
passed in his home in Mount Vernon.
Washington
had many close calls, but was never seriously wounded in battle
by WHITEHOUSE.
GOV
Washington
longed to retire to his fields at Mount Vernon. But he soon realized that
the Nation was not functioning well, so he became a prime mover in the
steps leading to the Constitutional Convention at Philadelphia in 1787.
