Invitation
Dear Reader:
As you may already know, I will lead a fact-finding expedition to
Israel's desert, the Negev, between April 26 and May 5, 2015.
We will briefly spend time in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, but mostly we
will focus on the majestic Negev desert, its inhabitants, and its many
issues, with an emphasis on unrest among the Bedouins, persistent enemy
efforts to penetrate Israel's borders, and plans to integrate the desert
more closely into the rest of the country.
In addition to my analysis throughout the trip, you will hear
explanations by some of Israel's best guides and lectures by top experts,
including policymakers, business leaders, journalists, academics,
security experts, and (Jewish and Bedouin) IDF officers.
This summer's aggression by Hamas has somewhat changed our plans.
Specifically, we will make several visits near the Gaza Strip: a military
base, the Erez crossing, Sderot, Netivot, and Kibbutz Yad Mordechai. We
will listen to expert analyses on Israeli military doctrine, new tactical
issues (Iron Dome, drones, tunnels, the closure of Ben-Gurion Airport),
and lessons learned.
Travel everywhere will be in late-model tour buses and first-class
hotels, with great meals and warm companionship. I welcome you to what
will be an inexpensive, informative, and enjoyable trip and hope you can
join me in the spring of 2015.
Space is limited, please reserve your place today.

Yours sincerely,
Daniel Pipes
