The Islamic State recently sold 42 Yazidi girls to its jihadist
fighters. However, they have been sold for different prices in different
places, mostly very cheaply.
In order to highlight how poorly the Islamic State values women, Clarion Project presents some prices of consumer goods in the United States by way of comparison.
The 42 Yazidi girls were sold by ISIS in Syria. The prettier the woman, the more expensive she is. Blue-eyed girls are priced higher than less ‘exotic’ girls.
The least attractive were sold for $500. Same Price As: 42 inch Widescreen HDTV with 3 HDMI inputs
The most exceptionally pretty girls cost $2000.
Same Price As: Definitive Technology Speaker System ($2000)
At the end of 2014 in Iraq, the Islamic State sold its slaves by age, the younger the girl, the higher the price.
A woman aged 30-40 cost 75,000 Iraqi dinars ($63).
Same Price As: Santa’s Workshop Lego Set - $69.99
Women from 20-30 were sold for more, costing 100,000 dinars ($84).
Same Price As: Glemorangie The Quinta Ruban Whisky - $81.99
Girls aged 10-20 were priced at 150,000 Iraqi dinars ($126). Same Price As: Spa Day Package for one with lunch (50 minute facial, 45 minute foot scrub at Eden Day Spa, Tribeca, NYC - $120
Young children fetched the highest price, girls from 1-9 were sold for 200,000 Iraqi dinars ($168).
Same Price As: One Grand Tier Ticket to ‘The Barber of Seville’ at the Metropolitan Opera NYC
Age and beauty are not the only determining factors. If a girl converts to Islam she is worth more, and the slave-owner can ‘marry’ her.
A Muslim slave girl (after a forced conversion) can be been sold for $1000.
Same Price As: Yves Saint Laurent Monogramme Leather Camera Bag ($995)
But prices can drop far, lower. Boko Haram, now styling itself as The Islamic State in West Africa sold the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls girls for just $12 each – just over the price of 1 packet of Malboro Red cigarettes in Illinois (including tax)
There are also restrictions on how many slaves each man is allowed to own. One fighter cannot buy more than three women by Islamic State decree. However, the rules are different for foreign fighters, who can buy as many women as they can afford.
As
appallingly low as these prices may seem, it is the fact that women are
being sold at all that is truly outrageous, not the price they fetch.
