Members of the Shiite community in Ottawa and in the Toronto Greater Area gathered on Wednesday, January 6, in front of the Saudi embassy in Ottawa to protest the execution of the Shiite scholar and dissident Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr by the Saudi regime.
One of the speakers at the protest was the Shiite cleric, Sheikh Abdallah Obeid, the Imam of Imam Ali Mosque in Ottawa and graduate of Dawsson collage in US.
Abdallah Obeid lashed out at the Saudi regime for torturing and executing Sheikh Nimr Baqir al-Nimr and indulging in moral corruption. In his impassioned speech, Abdallah Obeid lead the crowd repeating the chants calling for death to the House of Saud, meaning the the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia, composed of 15,000 members. Proud of the large turnout at the protest, Abdallah Obeid urged Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau to listen to the message of the protesters whom he called “Canadians” and “free people.”
