IRAN’S supreme leader has branded the US the “great Satan” and the UK “evil” enemies of the Islamic republic during a scathing attack against the West.

Ali Khamenei also accused of Washington of not being committed to a nuclear deal reached between Tehran and six major powers that aims to curb the country’s nuclear activities.

In a televised address, he said: “ America has continued its enmity towards Iran since the [1979 Islamic] revolution.

“It is a he mistake to trust evil Britain and the great Satan.
“We will not cooperate with America over the regional crisis.

He went on to say the “great Satan” and “evil” Britain were using “pretexts” like human rights abuses and terrorism to avoid fulfilling their commitments.

Mr Khamenei made the shocking accusations as part of a speech dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the death of the country’s former supreme leader Imam Khomeini.

The US and its allies have accused Iran of interfering in the affairs of Middle Eastern countries, particularly Syria.

Although Iran has denied this, it is believed Tehran provides both military and economic assistance to staunch ally President Bashar al-Assad. The landmark deal saw crippling economic sanctions lifted in January after Iran suspended sensitive nuclear work.
