Iranian Aggression: Our Allies in the Persian Gulf Have a Vital Role
to Play
In advance of
President Trump's trip to the Middle East, United Against Nuclear
Iran (UANI) is unveiling a new resource analyzing the Gulf
Cooperation Council (GCC)'s relations with Iran. UANI's report
examines the headlines and trendlines in the region, and offers
Washington policy-oriented recommendations for enhancing U.S-GCC
cooperation.
Iran's ambitions
to dominate the Middle East directly imperil GCC security and
stability. Relations between Washington and the GCC grew strained in
recent years as a result of US. efforts to reach an accommodation
with Iran over its illicit nuclear program. A new administration
offers U.S. policymakers an opportunity to reposition America's
relations with its historic Gulf allies. If calibrated correctly,
renewed U.S.-GCC cooperation can serve to constrain Iran's hegemonic
ambitions and become a catalyst for increased stability in the
tumultuous Middle East.
