Iran Violating U.N. Resolution Against
Missile Transfers
UANI
Urges International Community to Hold Tehran Accountable
New York, NY - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI)
Chairman and former U.S. Senator Joseph I. Lieberman issued the
following statement regarding today's speech by U.S. Ambassador to
the U.N. Nikki Haley that revealed evidence of Iran's transfer of
ballistic-missile technology to the Houthis in Yemen:
"U.N. Security Council Resolution 2231 calls upon
Iran to halt all nuclear-capable ballistic missile activity and
strictly prohibits Iran from transferring missile technology outside
its borders without pre-approval from the UN Security Council.
For months, we've seen Iran disregard international laws and norms by
continuing its provocative ballistic missile testing. Now, with
the evidence unveiled today by Ambassador Haley, Iran has been caught
red-handed flagrantly violating the prohibition on transferring
missile technology to third parties--namely the Houthis in Yemen--who
have targeted an international civilian airport. If airports in
Brussels, Paris, Berlin, and elsewhere were fired upon-as Iran itself
has threatened recently-there would be global outrage. But the
silence to date has been deafening.
"Ambassador Haley's presentation demonstrates
that the European Union's statement this week giving Iran a clean
bill of health in its compliance with the nuclear deal is dangerously
misleading. The time has come for the international community
to hold Iran accountable for its illicit missile and arms
programs-initiatives designed to inflict maximum terror throughout
the Middle East and one day develop the means to deliver a nuclear
weapon.
"We also call upon the Trump administration to
articulate a comprehensive non-nuclear strategy on Iran in its
National Security Strategy to be unveiled next week. The status
quo remains unacceptable."
