Statement On Iran's Foiled Assassination Attempt In Denmark
"Iran
is led by a dangerous regime that has shown no aversion to committing
acts of terror on European soil. This is the second government-run
attempt to commit murder in an EU-member state since June. We applaud
the Danish government in their call for fresh EU-wide sanctions
against Iran. UANI also calls upon the leadership of Copenhagen-based
Danske Bank to commit itself to using its seat on the board of
directors of the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial
Telecommunication (SWIFT) to force the immediate disconnection of
Iran from its system.
"EU-member
states are being targeted by Iran. The Financial Action Task Force
(FATF), of which Denmark is a member, has recently found that Iran
poses a risk to the international financial system for its lack of
protections against money laundering and terror financing. Danske
Bank should seize this moment and use its position with SWIFT to
strike a blow against the regime's ability to finance the kinds of
plots that have recently been foiled."
