Against
Islam-biased K-12 Textbooks
Fourth
Largest U.S. School District Drops
Islam-tainted
History and Geography Texts
BOCA RATON, FLORIDA –
Citizens For National Security (CFNS) has just confirmed that
Islam-biased textbooks previously used in the Miami-Dade (Florida)
County School District have now been rejected. In its recent
adoption of history and geography textbooks for the next five-year
selection cycle, the Miami-Dade School Board of the fourth largest
school district in the United States eliminated seven Islam-tainted
textbooks identified by CFNS. These same textbooks are found in
classrooms across the country.
Over two years ago, CFNS - a Florida-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit,
nonpartisan research organization - initiated its objection to the
inclusion of these Islam-flawed social studies textbooks in the
Miami-Dade social studies curriculum, and continued to make its case
for their removal until learning that its request to replace them would
be reviewed.
After first meeting with District curriculum and instruction officials
at School Board headquarters, CFNS followed up with documented evidence
of errors, omissions and bias favorable to Islam while demeaning
Christianity and Judaism. Over time, there was a continuing exchange of
telephone calls and e-mails relevant to our concerns, Dr. William A.
Saxton, CFNS Chairman, recalls.
“This is a huge win in our efforts to rid K-12 schools of Islam-biased
textbooks in America,” Dr. Saxton exclaims. “It is impossible to
overstate the significance of this action by the Miami-Dade School
Board, following CFNS’s similar successes in Florida’s Palm Beach and
Brevard counties. Florida is the third largest buyer of elementary and
high-school textbooks in the country,” he points out, “and is setting
an example for how to deal with these Islam-slanted textbooks
everywhere in the U.S.”
“CFNS will continue the battle against Islam-biased textbooks until
they are either corrected or removed from public-school classrooms
throughout the country,” vows Dr. Saxton. “We have already been working
with school officials and concerned citizens in several states on this
issue, and there is undoubtedly a growing momentum for addressing it,”
he says.
CFNS has published a landmark report, “Islam in Florida’s K-12
Textbooks,” and a Teacher’s Guide for “Corrections to Islam-biased
Content in Florida’s K-12 Textbooks.” Both are available free-of-charge
and downloadable at its Web site, www.CFNS.US.
