One million officials force Muslims to integrate in China as authorities see them as ‘security problem’

Last year, one million Chinese officials were sent out to “monitor” and keep Muslims in check, reports Radio Sweden. 

Muslim minorities are seen as a security problem in China and the country’s authorities have therefore put them in political retraining camps.

Chinese State Media call the sites “anti-extremist training centers”. Since April 2017, China has forced thousands of Uighurs and other Turkish-Muslim minorities into these centres.

In the retraining camps, Muslims are forced, among other things, to learn to distinguish between legitimate and illegal religious activities.

China sees Islam as such a big threat that last year, one million officials were sent out to live in Muslim families in the Xinjiang province, where various minority groups reside.
Officials visit the Muslim families once a month to teach them to be Chinese patriots and adhere to Chinese culture.

They also “monitor” how Muslims practise their religion. Among other things, there are general prohibitions on fasting and prayer.

In total, one million people are included in the political retraining. The purpose is to counteract Islamist terrorism in China.
