East Forum Appoints Counselor and Associate Counselor

PHILADELPHIA – March 24, 2015 – The Middle East Forum announces two
personnel changes.
Marc Fink, who has been with the Forum for three years as
director of Islamist
Watch, following a career in law and politics, has been promoted to
the position of counselor. In this new position, he directs both Islamist
Watch and the Legal
Project. He also serves as the Middle East Forum's in-house legal
counsel and chief editor.
Islamist Watch counters lawful Islamists through research,
dissemination and activism. The Legal Project serves as a vital lifeline
to numerous individuals whose free speech and livelihood have been
threatened by Islamist "lawfare."
Johanna Markind joins the Forum as
associate counselor, where she will work with Mr. Fink on Islamist Watch
and the Legal Project. An attorney experienced in both civil and criminal
litigation, she recently worked for the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms.
Markind's writings have appeared in American Thinker, Federal
Lawyer, Jewish Forward, Pajamas Media and the Wall
Street Journal.
"Mr. Fink and Ms. Markind together will strengthen the Forum's
efforts to investigate, unveil, and combat nonviolent radical Islam in
the United States and across the Western world," said Forum
president Daniel Pipes. "Violent jihad gets the headlines. But
lawful Islamism gets results, by exploiting the freedoms of Western
society incrementally to undermine from within."
The Middle East Forum promotes American interests through activist,
intellectual, and philanthropic efforts.
