Gymnast hits back at 'empty tin cans'
"In her deeds only the Almighty judges her. Not you. Leave our athletes alone," tweeted Khairy last night.
He was responding to netizens who criticised Farah for wearing the traditional gymnastics gear that they claimed did not conceal her 'aurat' as required by Islam.
When her photograph was posted on Twitter and Facebook, scores of users criticised the 21-year-old Muslim athlete for not "covering up".
However others came to her defence, asking if Farah should wear a robe and a headscarf when contending in the games.
On Wednesday, Farah danced her way into the hearts of the judges with an energetic performance to win the floor exercise gold medal on the final day of the artistic gymnastics event in Singapore.
Multiple medal winner
Farah Ann, who had to be content with two bronze medals the day before, was awarded 13.733 points for her routine to finish ahead of Indonesia's Rifda Irfanalutfi who managed 13.700 points while Phan Thi Ha Thanh from Vietnam ended with the bronze medal on 13.433 points, reported Bernama.
"All praise to god for being able to contribute a gold medal to the Malaysian contingent. After my performance, I was nervous and afraid to look the score.
"But when the score was flashed, I was very happy because I had desperately wanted to win a gold medal for the country, my coach and team mates who have supported me," said Farah Ann.
Apart from the gold in Floor Exercise, Farah Ann also contributed a bronze medal in the balance beam after collecting 13.300 points in the event that was won by Vietnam's Phan Thi Ha Thanh with 13.966 points while her team mate Do Thi Van Anh took the silver with 13.333 points.
Meanwhile, MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh called the critics "sick" and "too dumb".
"Some people are just too sick - they don’t see a difference between international sports competition and personal morality," he said in a statement today.
"Was she wearing very revealing dress? Or was she behaving in any offensive manner?" he said, asking what wrong Farah had done.
"She was only wearing a leotard that is appropriate for the game she was on - that is as a gymnast.
"Do the critics expect her to wear a tudung and do gymnastics, or are they suggesting she does not do gymnastics at all?" he asked.
