UANI's Eye on Hezbollah Website Highlights Unified Operations of Iran-Sponsored Terror Group

Resource Details the Group's Organizational Structure at
UANI-Controlled Hezbollah.org

(New York, N.Y.) - In a long-anticipated move, the U.K. recently banned Hezbollah in its entirety, joining the U.S., Canada, Israel, the Arab League, and the Netherlands to recognize that there is no difference between Hezbollah's so-called 'military' and 'political' wings. Hezbollah's organizational chart, available on United Against Nuclear Iran's (UANI) Eye on Hezbollah website, documents how the group's terrorist and political activities are intertwined in its decision-making structure.

Hezbollah's organizational structure has evolved and expanded since the group's rise in 1982, but it has always been a unified body. The group's military and political activities act symbiotically under the command of a single leadership - the Shura Council headed by Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah. This Shura Council controls Hezbollah's five subordinate specialized Councils - the Executive, Judiciary, Parliamentary, Political, and Jihad Councils - to the same degree, and in the same manner. Nasrallah has also referred to the military vs. political wing distinction as an "innovation [bid'a]" and said sanctioning the military wing alone would have no "effects beyond the symbolic and psychological," because Hezbollah had no such internal divisions.

Hezbollah's five councils, which control all of the group's military, political, and social apparatuses, operate in a mutually reinforcing manner that ultimately bolsters Hezbollah's fighting capabilities. By way of example, the Executive Council controls the Islamic Resistance Support Association (IRSA), which raises funds for Hezbollah's military activities. It also controls the Mahdi Scouts, which acts as a gateway for young Lebanese Shiites into Hezbollah's fighting ranks. The Political Council translates this popular support into, inter alia, domestic political alliances. These alliances, in turn, strengthen the Parliamentary Council, comprised of Hezbollah's parliamentarians, which protects the group's interests within the Lebanese government, including preventing its disarmament. And finally, through the threat and use of force, the Jihad Council protects Hezbollah's state-within-a-state built around these four councils.

Through its detailed explanation of the responsibilities and purposes of each council, Eye on Hezbollah demonstrates how every facet of Hezbollah's organization is designed to ultimately feed Hezbollah's terrorist activities in support of Iran's regional and international agenda.
