Major Jihad Terror Plot to Attack New York-Toronto Railroad Thwarted in Canada: "It was meant to be spectacular and there would have been a lot of carnage."

I love when they say that it is unrelated to the Boston jihad bombings. It is the same thing. The same playbook. Same motive. Same goal. Same ideology.

Will we now have to suffer the draconian measures on the rails that the the lunkheads in Washington force us to endure on the airlines. These still have millions of Americans taking their shoes off because of Richard Reid in 2001. Operation fetal position ain't gonna win this war, no way no how.

Authorities have reportedly prevented an al-Qaeda-supported terrorist attack that aimed to disrupt a major North American transportation route.
Canadian law enforcement confirmed Monday afternoon that authorities thwarted an alleged terror plot in Canada that targeted Via Rail passenger train that runs between Toronto, Ontario and New York City in the United States.
According to CTV, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) apprehended and charged two men earlier that day thought to be responsible for hatching what is being called a homegrown terror plot.
The suspects now in custody have been named as Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser, residents of Montreal, Quebec and Toronto, Ontario, respectively.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation adds that the suspects were under investigation for over a year before brought into custody, and assistance was provided by entities on both sides of the border including the United States’ FBI and Department of Homeland Security Department.
The suspects, say investigators, were spotted routinely monitoring train activity in the Toronto area.
Robert Fife, chief of CTV’s Ottawa news bureau, reports that both suspects were arrested early Monday and “will face criminal charges.”
“I am told that the two people who have been arrested, they are linked somehow to al-Qaeda,” Fife says.
A federal policing operations official for the RCMP confirmed during a Monday afternoon press conference that the plot was supported by al-Qaeda, although authorities have yet to detail the extent of that collaboration.
Details on the suspects are scant as preliminary reports come in, but Fife describes them as being older, adding, “it does not appear to be a case of radicalization of youth.”
Major terrorist attack on Canada averted Sun News, April 22, 2013
TORONTO - A potential bomb plot on a passenger train over the Niagara River has been averted, a police source told QMI Agency.
Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser of Montreal and Toronto were arrested, according to sources.
One police source said there were several scenarios being looked at during the year the suspects were tracked, including the train plot.
One of the plots uncovered by the RCMP and other agencies was a planned bombing of a passenger train on the bridge that connects Canada and the United States at Niagara Falls, Ont., a police source told QMI Agency.
"The plan was to take out a train with passengers on board and the crossing trestle," said a source. "It was meant to be spectacular and there would have been a lot of carnage."
The source was not clear of the planned date.
"It didn't happen," said the source. "It was stopped."
The source said he believes five people will be arrested and the investigation continues.
"There is an Ontario component and a Quebec component."
As for who was behind the terror plot, the source did not confirm al-Qaida, as some are reporting.
"I can tell you it's the big boys," he said. "I can tell you it's heavy stuff."
U.S. officials said the alleged plot was not linked with last week's Boston Marathon bombings.
The arrests follow not only the Boston bombings but revelations that Canadians took part in an attack by militants on a gas plant in Algeria in
January.
It also recalls the arrests in 2006 of the so-called Toronto-18, accused of planning to plant bombs at various Canadian targets.

A PhD student? But...but...we're always told that Muslims who misunderstand Islam enough to think it exhorts to violence are all poor and uneducated!
Chiheb Esseghaier is a "Graduate researcher at Université de Sherbrooke." His Linkedin page is here.
"RCMP says it foiled plot to attack Via Rail passenger train," from The Canadian Press, April 22:
TORONTO — RCMP say the two suspects arrested in an alleged terror attack against a Via Rail passenger train had “direction and guidance” from al-Qaida elements in Iran. The suspects were not Canadian citizens.
The suspects — identified as Chiheb Esseghaier and Raed Jaser — were arrested this morning in Montreal and Toronto.
