American patriotism shone brightly during last weekend’s conference, The Awakening 2013, an annual event staged by the Freedom Federation. Compelling speeches and a call to return to biblical principles from several nationally influential figures were the order of the day.
Speakers such as 2012 presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, and authors Pamela Geller and Frank Gaffney, among many others, fired up the audience with inspirational speeches, compelling the nation to return to its godly roots and calling on citizens to “fight for the soul of America.”
Following are a few noteworthy quotations from the conference:
“I don’t care if you worship a stone; just don’t stone me with it.” —Pamela Geller, author and president of the American Freedom Defense Initiative
“We are witnessing in Europe now what Hitler could not accomplish years ago.” —Pamela Geller
“It’s been an interesting week—the bombings in Boston and Texas and the trial of a blood-soaked monster [abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell]. Don’t believe that Almighty God doesn’t see this and will not bring about His justice.” —Michele Bachmann, U.S. representative from Minnesota
“Every generation deals with totalitarianism and evil. In our generation right now, it’s Islam jihad.”—Michele Bachmann
“The church doesn’t shape our values anymore, and that’s killing us as a nation.” —Retired Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin, executive vice president of the Family Research Council

“Sharia is the problem. It’s not radical—it’s crazy.” —Frank Gaffney, author and founder and president of the Center for Security Policy
“Our first and second amendments are our last chances to survive.” —Jonathan Matusitz, author and associate professor of communication at the University of Central Florida
“In the process of living the American dream, we are losing it.” —Jan Morgan, Associated Press award-winning veteran investigative journalist and media personality
“We need to be trained and prepared for whatever comes our way, because you ain’t seen nothing yet.” —Jan Morgan
“We need to start talking about the victims of Islam. That’s how you defeat it.” —William Murray, chairman of the Religious Freedom Coalition
“There is no single institution that affects American values more than the church.” —Dr. Carlos Campo, president of Regent University
