A SPECIAL MESSAGE TO
ACT FOR AMERICA
BY REP. MIKE POMPEO, MEMBER OF THE
BENGHAZI SPECIAL COMMITTEE

ACT for America has been on the front lines of the Benghazi issue since the 2012 attack that killed four Americans including a U.S. Ambassador. Our unrelenting efforts led to the creation of the House Benghazi Special Committee.

We were pleased to see the Special Committee hold their first open hearing yesterday morning, at which Lisa Piraneo, our Director of Government Relations had a front row seat. While yesterday’s focus on the ARB report was a good first step, we look forward to future Committee hearings that focus on critical issues tied to the Benghazi attack, such as why Americans were left to die, and why Ambassador Stevens’ calls for additional security were ignored.

Below is a special message from Congressman Mike Pompeo, R-Kansas, a member of the House Select Committee on Benghazi. Rep. Pompeo has already done a great deal of work looking into what happened at Benghazi as part of his role on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He brings a great deal of experience to the committee, including his legal background as an attorney and his military training as an Army officer who graduated First at West Point.

ACT for America is committed to holding our elected officials’ feet to the fire until the real truth about the Benghazi attack comes out – and until those responsible for the deaths of four brave Americans, by either action or omission, are held accountable.

Thank you for standing with us.

Our First Open Hearing on Benghazi
By Congressman Mike Pompeo

Dear ACT for America Friends,

Following our first open hearing, I wanted to thank you all for your enthusiasm and attention to the work of the Special Committee on Benghazi. I’m glad we had the opportunity to give you all a glimpse into how we are going about this investigation.

While this is a bipartisan effort, many of my Democratic colleagues have publicly expressed that this committee is unnecessary. While I couldn’t disagree more, I think the best way to demonstrate that they are wrong is through doing the hard work this mission requires. After all, there is still much to be learned from this tragedy.

Four people died in an attack that caught us entirely by surprise despite the fact that we should have had the resources at each step of the way to prevent tragedy. If it could happen on Sept. 11, 2012, it could happen again. When someone tells you that this committee is simply about politics, remind them that our work will go beyond this or any election cycle and that the officials who are participating are legislators who will provide serious oversight. I’ve worked with these leaders in a variety of settings, from the Intelligence Committee to the Energy and Commerce Committee, and I’ve seen firsthand their thoughtful approach to policymaking. I’m honored to be among them.

We will continue taking very measured steps. Much of the work will take place behind the scenes in classified settings. This investigation is going to be a long process in which we meet with many of the people involved in the events leading up to, including, and following the Benghazi attacks. It will take a great deal of research and staff work, more so than any of the previous committees had the resources to provide. We must exhaust all of our options.

I’m looking forward to continuing to do this important work, and hopeful we’ll get the answers America deserves.

Sincerely,

Mike Pompeo
Member of Congress
