A conference at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) on April 16, 2010, offered "Critical Perspectives on the Criminalization of Islamic Philanthropy in the War on Terror." Co-sponsored by the UCLA International Institute, the Critical Race Studies Program, and the UCLA Journal of Islamic and Near Eastern Law—and including speakers from UCLA's Center for Near Eastern Studies (CNES)—the conference proffered the usual apologist fare.

It was also an echo chamber. Of the approximately 30 people in attendance, 20 of them were academics. Several students showed up, in addition to the usual assortment of aging leftist revolutionaries.

The thrust of the conference was simple: The war on terror has led to a crackdown on Muslim charities, which has had a chilling effect on Muslims by rendering them unable to engage in Zakat (charity), one of the five pillars of Islam.

Unmentioned throughout this eight-hour infomercial was that the majority of the charities that have been investigated for financially aiding terrorism were found guilty and that decent Muslims are capable of giving to charities that do not foment bombings and beheadings.

Asli Bali, acting professor of law at UCLA, organized the conference and acted as one of the principal moderators. She responded to challenging questions from the audience by stating: "We will take three questions from presenters; others will have to wait."

Jennifer Turner of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Human Rights Program was the speaker over whom everybody seemed to be fawning. Her presentation was titled, "Blocking Faith, Freezing Charity," and, in typical ACLU fashion, she made excuses for Islamists' bad behavior while bashing America.

She began by stating: "I'm not a social scientist. I am not here to offer any statistical analysis"—a fig leaf she employed to make wildly unsubstantiated claims, as when she announced that "the conviction in the Holy Land Foundation case was based on faulty evidence." She didn't bother to elaborate.

It turned out her "research" that had the entire room in a swoon consisted of the following:

I did 120 interviews with American Muslims in Michigan and Texas. People reported that they were unable to give Zakat. Some had stopped giving entirely. Some felt fear of deportation or denial of citizenship.

Turner excused her extremely small sample size with more platitudes about not being a statistician. She insisted that she did not ask leading questions, although the process was clearly an exercise in promoting victimhood. She did not verify the accuracy of her respondents or analyze any tax returns. In short, she relied on her own biased views to justify a predetermined conclusion.

University of Michigan, Dearborn, history professor Sally Howell actually found oppression in increased giving. As she put it:

Since 2001, there have been 14 new mosques, and 17 mosques have doubled in size. This is proof that people are not donating overseas.

Howell followed this with more bizarre commentary:

"The Arab charity LIFE [Life for Relief and Development] had their board resign one year after Israel invaded Lebanon."

Foiled again!

"As a result of restrictive policies" a board member of another charity, according to Howell, "embezzled $10,000."

Yes: and as a result of inconvenient and restrictive securities laws, Bernie Madoff was forced to steal. It was all America's fault.

"Does government get to decide what is good Islam and what is bad Islam?," she asked.

No, but it does get to decide what constitutes funding terrorism.

Howell concluded, "The FBI has to show results or lose resources."

Erica James, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) anthropology professor, offered proof—of nothing:

"I have an anthropology background. I am here to theorize what is happening."

Her solution to the supposed problems faced by Muslim charities? "Defiant giving."

During the question and answer period of this panel, an audience member—resorting to the usual name calling directed at critics of Middle East studies— proclaimed that "well-known bigot Daniel Pipes wrote an article about 'stealth Islamists.'"

The panelists all nodded in agreement. There was no word on Pipes's findingsregarding UCLA law professor—and moderator at this conference—Khaled Abou El Fadl's status as, in fact, a stealth Islamist.

Laila Al-Marayati, the chairperson of KinderUSA—a charity that terrorism analyst Matthew Levitt included in his book on funding Hamas—portrayed the terrorist groups Hamas and Hezbollah as harmless. As she put it, "Hamas helps Palestinian children in Gaza. I don't consider Hamas and Hezbollah as threats to me and my family."

Jonathan Benthall of University College, London, gave a talk that can be summed up in one quote: "The United States is the key to the problem."

Mona Atia, assistant professor of geography and international affairs at George Washington University, claimed that "Egypt has been a model of fighting terrorism."

Meanwhile, McGill University political science and Islamic studies professor Khalid Medani demonstrated willful blindness by opining, "Somalia is a place where Islamic terrorism is not possible because they are not organized."

When asked if the definition of a terrorist was hard to prove, Medani responded, "You're right. I try to critique them based on their own terms. I'm not a lawyer."

No UCLA conference would be complete without offensive commentary from a member of the Center for Near Eastern Studies faculty. This time, CNES director and anthropology professor Susan Slyomovics—speaking during a break with colleagues about a book she's working on—said:

If Jews can get reparations from Germany, then Palestinians should get reparations from Israel. After all, what the Germans supposedly did to the Jews[emphasis added] is what Israel is doing to the people of Palestine.

All the while, she kept smiling and laughing. Nothing makes for a good academic sitcom like Holocaust denial from a prominent professor of Middle East studies.

Despite eight hours of groupthink, I was able to finally cut through the leftist clutter to determine why the U.S. is investigating Muslim charities: 9/11 actually did happen, and the majority of the charities accused of funding terrorism actually did.

Only a UCLA Middle East studies conference could deliberately fail to grasp this.

UANI Calls
On New York Area Hotels To Refuse To Host President Ahmadinejad And The Iranian
Delegation During the Upcoming United Nations Conference

New York, NY -
United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) yesterday called on New York area hotels to refuse to host
President Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Delegation during the upcoming conference
at the United Nations, scheduled to begin in New York City on May 3, 2010.

Speaking about UANI's hotel campaign, UANI President Ambassador Mark D. Wallace said:

President Ahmadinejad and
his regime are the world's leading state sponsors of terrorism; they defy
international law in developing a nuclear weapon and brutally repress their
own people. No American-based venue should host this outlaw regime. We
call on all New York-area venues to help isolate and condemn the Iranian regime
by refusing to host President Ahmadinejad and his cohorts.

UANI, in September 2009, called on all New York City
hotels to refuse to host President Ahmadinejad and the Iranian delegation. As a result President Ahmadinejad was confined to the one venue that agreed to host him.

UANI
calls on all New York City hotels to join with multinational corporations such as General Electric, Huntsman,
Caterpillar, Ingersoll Rand, KPMG, Ernst & Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers,
Siemens, ENI, Petronas, Daimler, Royal Dutch Shell, Trafigura and Glencore, all
of which have recently either severed their business ties with the Iranian
regime or announced that they will not pursue new business with Iran.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a program of the American Coalition Against Nuclear Iran, Inc., a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran should concern every American and be unacceptable to the community of nations. Since 1979 the Iranian regime, most recently under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's leadership, has demonstrated increasingly threatening behavior and rhetoric toward the US and the West. Iran continues to defy the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations in their attempts to monitor its nuclear activities. A number of Arab states have warned that Iran's development of nuclear weapons poses a threat to Middle East stability and could provoke a regional nuclear arms race. In short, the prospect of a nuclear armed Iran is a danger to world peace.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a non-partisan, broad-based coalition that is united in a commitment to prevent Iran from fulfilling its ambition to become a regional super-power possessing nuclear weapons. UANI is an issue-based coalition in which each coalition member will have its own interests as well as the collective goal of advancing an Iran free of nuclear weapons.

The Objectives of United Against a Nuclear Iran

  1. Inform the public about the nature of the Iranian regime, including its desire and intent to possess nuclear weapons, as well as Iran's role as a state sponsor of global terrorism, and a major violator of human rights at home and abroad;
  2. Heighten awareness nationally and internationally about the danger that a nuclear armed Iran poses to the region and the world;
  3. Mobilize public support, utilize media outreach, and persuade our elected leaders to voice a robust and united American opposition to a nuclear Iran;
  4. Lay the groundwork for effective US policies in coordination with European and other allies;
  5. Persuade the regime in Tehran to desist from its quest for nuclear weapons, while striving not to punish the Iranian people, and;
  6. Promote efforts that focus on vigorous national and international, social, economic, political and diplomatic measures.
UANI is led by an advisory board of outstanding national figures representing all sectors of our country.

Interview with Vijay Kumar

Vijay Kumar is running for Congress in Tennessee. Here is his website, Kumar
For Congress.
Vijay, who was born in India and is now a citizen of the United
States, is a good friend and ally and a superb political analyst. Here is an interview
with him at Ali Sina's FaithFreedom
website
. Please read it all and ponder his words.

An Interview with Vijay Kumar

Great men are born in the midst of despair, when ignorance has filled the world
and evil reigns. This is indeed one such time for mankind. Islam is on the rise,
Islamic terrorism is destroying countless lives throughout the world and it is
threatening our freedom, our countries and our civilization. Meanwhile ignorance
has blinded mankind to its peril. Humanity is walking blindfolded to its doom.

Vijay Kumar is one of the few people who understand the nature of this peril.
Vijay is not a politician. He does not speak the language of politicians. He
speaks the truth. Truth and politics often don't mix. In Netherlands, the Dutch
court is prosecuting a member of their parliament for speaking the truth. His
prosecutor has said before the trial, "It is irrelevant whether Wilders's
witnesses might prove Wilders's observations to be correct, what's relevant
is that his observations are illegal".

In the USA, speaking the truth is not illegal yet, but it is politically incorrect.
You will not be prosecuted yet, but you'll face vilification, will be called
racist, fascist and maligned. The US is not far behind the Europe. Things are
changing rapidly and all the freedoms that the Americans had enjoyed can be
lost overnight. Politicians are fast asleep.

Despite that Kumar is running for the Congress. It is now up to the voters of
Tennessee to decide whether they want to send another politician to the Congress
or a man who dares to speak the truth.

Faithfreedom.org is honored for this exclusive interview with Vijay Kumar, one
of the few people who understands the real threat that the USA and the world
is facing and has the courage to tell it like it is.

The future of America and the world depends on men and women who have the wisdom
to discern the truth and the courage to defend it. This is one interview you
want to read. Vijay is a man you want to know. His words of wisdom must be spread.
If America is to survive as a democracy, it would be because of people like
Vijay Kumar.

Ali Sina

FAITHFREEDOM: Thank you for accepting to do this interview for Faithfreedom
International. It is an honor to have you with us.

You are running for the United States Congress from the 5th Congressional District
of the state of Tennessee. Obviously, as a conservative you are concerned about
the deficit, the takeover of industry by the government, health care and other
issues that concern every patriotic American. However, you have said that stopping
the Islamization of America is your priority. I know only of one politician
with a similar platform: Geert Wilders, the founder of Freedom Party in Holland.
Why do you think Islamization of America should be the primary concern for Americans?
What dangers are you sensing that Islam poses to America?

VIJAY KUMAR: Thank for the opportunity to be with Faith Freedom. It is indeed
an honor for me. Yes, I am very interested in and concerned about the economy,
the takeover of industry by the government, state-regulated healthcare, and
the right to life. My website at www.kumarforcongress.com/issues contains my
position on those and other important issues facing the American people.

The reason I believe that the Islamization of America should be the primary
concern of Americans is that Islamic imperialism poses an existential threat
to the United States, and, really, to all mankind.

America was conceived as a free constitutional republic that is of the people,
by the people, and for the people. Islam was conceived as a totalitarian theocracy
that is of Islam, by Islam, and for Islam. The Quran is the antithesis of the
United States Constitution. They are polar opposites. They are diametrically
opposed. I don't say that as some Hegelian abstraction: I mean that these two
documents are ideological opposites of each other in their most basic purposes
and goals.

The purpose of our Constitution is to secure and guarantee to all people the
greatest possible freedom. The purpose of Islam is for all people to submit
to Islam, and only Islam-not just spiritually, but politically and secularly,
in every aspect of law and life.

These two purposes could not possibly be in greater opposition.

Our constitutional republic is built upon the foundation of separation of church
and state, with a representative form of government that derives all of its
power from the will of the people, framed by a Constitution that is the supreme
law of the land.

Islam is built on a foundation of church and state being one, an inseparable
autocratic form of government that derives all of its power solely from the
will of Allah, framed exclusively by Islamic law-which Islam holds to be divine,
supreme, and immutable.

So the danger that Islam poses to America is that Islam, at its core, is ideologically
at war with our Constitution. It is a declared war against everything our Constitution
stands for. This is a war of polarized ideologies, and they are irreconcilable.

Every conflict we have with Muslims and Islamic nations everywhere around the
world arises from that one very simple fact. All other "explanations"
are wrong, and so lead to no solutions, only endless turmoil.

The idea that somehow the United States antagonized the current conflicts with
Islamic nations and Muslim terrorists is specious. The very existence of our
Constitution is what antagonizes Islam. It stands in stark opposition to Islam's
worldwide goal of domination over all mankind. We could be doing absolutely
nothing anywhere in the world, and still would be an object of Islam's contempt
and aggression for the sole reason that we do not submit ourselves to Islamic
law, and we further have the gall to proclaim in our Constitution that people
have the right to choose a religion other than Islam-or no religion at all.

One cannot serve two masters. One cannot to be loyal to the United States Constitution
and to the Quran at the same time.

Muslims and non-Muslims alike, need to face up to this incontrovertible fact:
Islam's ultimate goal is world domination by Islamic rule, and America stands
as the single greatest barrier to the realization of that ultimate goal. That
is the exact simple statement of the problem.

For that reason, Islam, at its core, requires the overthrow of the American
government, the destruction of our Constitution, and the cancellation of all
of our laws as its ultimate goal in America, so that all of those can be replaced
with the Quran and Sharia law.

Islam, at its core, also demands the suppression and ultimate eradication of
every other church and religion in the world: Protestant, Catholic, Coptic,
Judaic, Buddhist, Mormon, Hindu, Zoroastrian-none are exempt. All paths to spiritual
enlightenment and sacred belief known to man that are not Islam-and even materialism,
agnosticism, and atheism-are branded by the Quran as inferior, and not really
worthy of existence.

Islam, at its core, also mandates inequality under Islamic law, using a double
standard specifically designed to oppress to any "non- believer."
It enforces Sharia law and its inherent discrimination with draconian penalties,
including selective taxes, dismemberment, and execution.

Islam, at its core, also commands complete and inescapable submission of the
mind and spirit to its scripture as supreme and divine law that overrides and
supersedes all the human rights and freedoms that we, as Americans, hold sacred-including,
ironically, freedom of religion. The Quran and Sharia law suppress all dissent,
and call for the destruction of all opposition to Islamic supremacy. To leave
Islam, or even to criticize it, is punishable by death. Comedy Central thought
that was a joke.

They're now finding out that perhaps it's not so funny after all.

These goals and purposes of Islam I've stated are not "Radical Islam;"
they are Literal Islam. These are the fundamental canonical goals of Islam's
most holy scripture, spelled out quite clearly in the Quran and Hadith, and
being put into force right this minute in nations around the world.

The Islamic theologian Syed Abul A'ala Maududi left no doubt about Islam's ultimate
goals when he said: "Islam wishes to destroy all states and governments
anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposed to the ideology and program
of Islam regardless of the country or the nation which rules it. The purpose
of Islam is to set up a state on the basis of its own ideology and program."

Given that the ideology of Islam itself is opposed to human rights and freedom,
that automatically, by reversal, makes every liberal democracy on Earth "opposed
to the ideology and program of Islam"-as Maududi put it, typically accusing
those in favor of freedom as being the offenders.

I realize that reciting these goals of Islam is not popular or "politically
correct" in our culture today, exactly because of the flood of propaganda
insisting that Islam is merely "another religion" and "a religion
of peace."

But Islam, at its core, is a faith-based political theocracy whose most basic
tenets and goals are a nullification of our Constitution, and, as such, it is
the single greatest threat that America-and, indeed, the entire free world-has
ever faced. It is a consummate totalitarianism against which every other totalitarianism
should be measured. Expressly because of its religious component, Islamic imperialism
is far more dangerous than Nazism and Communism combined.

Hitler came to power in 1939, and World War II ended in 1945 with the defeat
of Nazi Germany. Hitler was in power for about 15 years. The Communist Soviet
Union lasted longer, for about 74 years. The Soviet Union and Soviet sponsored
Communism died of their own internal contradictions.

Yet today, Islam's Universal Jihad has gained control of over 50 countries in
the world, according to the CIA's own World Fact Book. That's more than Nazism
and Soviet Communism combined. And Islam is well on its way to demographic control
in over a dozen other countries. . . .

The Opening Round on Immigration

Posted: 28 Apr 2010 08:16 PM PDT

When Arizona passed a law enforcing a Federal statute, Liberals across America reacted with their usual calm and rational approach of invoking the Nazis, boycotting anything with Arizona in its name including products that are not actually made in Arizona, and threatening a barrage of civil suits and protests to counter a law that the majority of Arizonians and Americans support.

The irony is that only a few weeks after the media was busy warning us ominously about all the hate and extremist anti-government rhetoric in the Tea Party movement, it has done a Full 180 and is now itself indulging in hateful anti-government rhetoric. Soon enough the very same reporters who spoke out on the dangers of people protesting on behalf of their Constitutional rights, will be speaking out on how wonderful it is to have illegal aliens protesting for their rights in major cities.

The objections to the bill aren't about fairness toward individuals. After all this Congress and this Administration just passed a law compelling everyone to buy health insurance on the suspicion that one of them might get into an accident and cost the government money. At least that was the rationalization that Obama himself used in an interview. But the liberal hypocrisy on preventative policing allows them to call for preventative policing of factories because they might possibly pollute, opposition protests because they might possibly get out of hand and individuals because they might possibly not pay for their own health care-- while vocally opposing preventative policing in Arizona. Because it's fair to fine law abiding citizens hundreds of dollars for just breathing, but it's unfair for police to enforce an existing law.

This isn't about Federalism either. Liberals have cheered on states and sanctuary cities that refused to cooperate with immigration authorities. Because just like anti-government rhetoric, state governments defying the Federal authorities is one of those things that's right when it's progressive and wrong when it's conservative. But while that sort of ideological moral compass whose needle always points left may be fine for those already on the left, most Americans aren't buying it. And that is because they don't see illegal immigration as a political issue, but as a problem that needs solving.

Where Democrats and some Republicans see a potential voting base, most Americans just see an unregulated workforce in a time of high unemployment and a drain on social services. And they see most politicians being more eager to cover their asses than to do something about. Which is why they support the Governor of Arizona, and not the little man with the big ears in the White House. While the latter has leveraged his power to create a nanny state, the former actually took steps to solve what most residents consider to be a problem.

The current immigration mess is a volatile situation that liberals created for their own benefit, and are outraged at the thought that their agenda might be thwarted. The Democratic party's "gut liberal" reaction was as usual a mistake. And no amount of MSNBC goosestepping rhetoric will change that. The "gut liberal" reaction plays really well in 1 percent of the country and falls flat everywhere else. And Obama's aggressive push against Arizona will just serve to remind voters again that his centrism was an election day glaze covering up a hard left center.

Arizona's action not only cuts off the Obama Administration at the pass for its Amnesty plans, but takes the populist position at a time when Democratic politicians are already terrified of the upcoming midterm elections. Obama and Congress thought that they could decide when to launch their amnesty campaign at their own leisure. But now their hand has been forced, and the polls are stacked against them. Naturally they will retaliate in the usual community organizer way, through the press, through political intimidation, and through their own rights organizations which will "monitor the situation" searching for an incident they can exploit. But it is now an uphill battle.

And Arizona's actions have wider implications beyond immigration. Under Barack Hussein Obama, the government has badly neglected its core functions of protecting Americans from external threats, in favor of its round of socialist charades. Now Washington D.C. has been put on notice that the states will act, even if Washington D.C. does not. And in the Federal government will not enforce the law, there are state governments that will. Immigration is not the end of it. The War on Terror remains an obvious area where the government has neglected its responsibilities in order to curry favor with Islam. And the next time an Islamic terrorist kills civilians in a more independent minded state, its residents may also decide that serious enforcement is needed.

The fundamental gap between the worldview of the left, in which government manages the lives of the people under its authority, and that of ordinary Americans, in which government protects the people against overriding external threats, has opened up in Arizona. But not just in Arizona. Because with the left in the driver's seat in D.C., there is no one to look out for American interests either globally or locally. To the left, a Mexican illegal alien is no different than a US citizen, because they don't recognize nations as valid entities. And for all that Obama wraps himself in the flag when convenient, over the last year his actions have begun to speak louder than words.

Obama not only does not believe in American Exceptionalism, though he summons that too in his speeches when convenient, but he does not see himself as an American leader, only as the head of an authority that governs the people in his jurisdiction, regardless of legal status. America to him is just Chicago writ large. And that's the way he governs. His national politics are no different than his local politics. Just louder and with a bigger impact, and more money to take in and spread around. Washington D.C. is nothing but the new base of his political machine. And like his colleagues on the left, he sees what is going on in Arizona in terms of class and racial warfare, a mindset that leaves him unable to sympathize with the valid concerns of the people of Arizona.

To the current regime, there are no Americans... only people who happen to live in America. Warm bodies who are capable of providing resources for the government, and consuming resources to be repaid with loyalty. The populations of countries are to them like game pieces on a Risk board, objects on a map to be moved around in order to claim voting districts. And so the Democrats have been moving Third World immigrants into America, for the same reasons that Labor moved Muslim immigrants into Europe. Power. Political power. That is what it comes down to in the end.

The Democrats' tone deafness on immigration originates from the extent to which they have tied their own political fortunes to the demographic transformation of America. And to their disconnection from the idea of America as anything but a logo and a flag, more akin to a sports team than anything of substance. They don't see why anyone would object to pieces being moved around the board, after all it's just pieces, which means in their minds the only objection has to be to their color. Because when you engage in class and racial warfare, you assume that everyone else is too, and that you are only acting in self-defense. And thus follow the accusations of Nazism, Fascism and Racism. When in fact the majority of Latinos in Arizona support the law, precisely because they have the most to lose from the collapse of social services and the export of Mexico's Cartel Culture into the United States.

Not that the Republicans don't own their fair share of the blame. The Republican party has taken too much money from the US Chamber of Commerce (which is rather liberal on immigration) and numerous corporations that directly or indirectly profit from illegal aliens to ever do more than talk tough about it. Add on a few Republican politicians afraid of losing their limited portion of the Latino vote by opening themselves up to liberal accusations of racism, and other Republicans politicians who
shamelessly "farm" the illegal immigration issue, but have absolutely no interest in seeing anything done about it-- and there's plenty of reasons for the GOP's general inaction.

And so all too we often we have Republican Presidents and Senators who push a softer line. We have Republican congressmen who say the right things, but know that too many of their donors are running plants filled with illegals, and that either enforcement or amnesty would hurt them badly. (And what's more the Democrats know it too, which is what gives them their boldness on an issue that in theory should be an easy populist home run for the GOP.) Finally of course there are the firebrand Republican politicians who seem all fired up about illegal immigration, and are willing to campaign on the issue, but run the other way when an actual measure is passed that might make a dent in the situation. And that's because they want to exploit the problem, not solve it.

But the current economic crisis and its accompanying unemployment have mobilized public hostility to any idea of legalization, and strengthened a push for enforcement. Arizona is moving with the public sentiment, the Democrats are swimming against it, because they've once again forgotten about the same economic crisis that they exploited to leverage themselves into power. The Republican party right now is being powered by populism, because its leading figures have no ideas, just conferences, those of them that aren't jockeying for a 2012 run. And the smart populist money says enforcement.

This is still only the opening round on immigration. Arizona has forced Obama's hand. The Democrats hope to find a silver lining by exploiting the issue in order to bring out Latino and minority voters out of a generally moribund midterm election turnout. But they might not be counting on how many other voters they will bring out as well. It's doubtful that even the Democrats think they have a winning hand on the issue, but they're also depending on changing the demographics of the electorate in order to play the long game. And just as with health care, they might be prepared to accept short term defeat in 2010 and even in 2012, in order to achieve long term political gains. Because they're counting on a Republican party too timid to reverse their policies once it's in power. And nationally they may be right. Which is why it be up to the states to do the right thing, after all.
