The latest ISIS video begins with the tried and tested (and some would say legitimate) argument that the West, led by the United States, is guilty of double standards – seeing fit to breach the laws of warfare when it sees the need.

It’s okay in the eyes of the West, the Islamic State argues, to bomb ISIS targets and kill children along the way.

ISIS plays on our heart strings by using a young boy as narrator for the film.

ISIS’ propaganda child then attacks the foreign media for failing to report fairly on the collateral damage caused by allied attacks on Islamic State positions.

However, rather than leaving it there, and perhaps for once scoring a point against the West, ISIS proves just why the West is launching attacks that oftentimes cause loss of life to minors.

The second half of the clip focuses on ISIS’ child fighters – something that breaches the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, International Labour Organization (ILO) Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, Additional Protocols to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949, the U.N. Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC) and more.

ISIS routinely seizes children, often the orphans of victims of Islamic State terrorism and turns them into child soldiers.

It is clear to all that this must be stopped. It is clear to all that if youngsters are manning fortified positions that open fire on allied forces, they will naturally fall victim in turn.

Rather than blaming the West, ISIS must look at its own recruitment policies – the lies it tells in its recruitment campaigns, the way it treats its own fighters, the fact that it has begun to lose the war and is conscripting more and more child fighters to its ranks because its adult fighters are fleeing in droves.

ISIS is solely responsible for its cynical abuse of the young – girls as brides and sex slaves and boys as cannon fodder.

It must be stopped. One way or another.

WARNING: The video includes photos of child victims of the fighting in Syria.
