Canadian Islamic Honor Killings for Embracing Western Culture
http://www.newsrealblog.com/2010/06/17/canadian-islamic-honor-killings-for-embracing-western-culture/The sensational case of Ontario’s 16-year-old Aqsa Parvez who was the victim of a brutal ‘honor-killing’, driven by rage and the strict tenets of a dangerous ideology is back in Canadian headlines with the surprise confession of her killers: her father and older brother. Prosecutors accurately described the case as:
A gender-based crime motivated by patriarchal concepts of honour and shame. – National Post
Aqsa’s father Muhammad Parvez awoke his wife right after murdering his daughter and declared:
“My community will say you have not been able to control your daughter. This is my insult. She is making me naked.”
Aqsa faced the brutal and ultimate wrath of an extremist belief hell-bent on keeping its daughters immune from the ‘corruption’ of Western culture, even though families governed by it choose to live in a free society where their children will socialize in a world very different from their own. Aqsa’s family immigrated from Pakistan as refugees in 1999; ironic, given that Aqsa lived as a hostage under her own roof:
She had no privacy, not even in her bedroom, which had to be passed through by her parents whenever they went to their own room. A part of her bedroom wall was even removed, providing a view inside to her parents, her seven siblings or the wives of three of her brothers, who also lived in the house.
Her telephone access was restricted. She was not allowed to socialize, had to go straight home after school and was expected to remain with her family on weekends. – National Post
Aqsa wanted to escape the oppression she knew at home, confiding in friends that her sister would spy on her and report back to the family. She was terrified and enunciated this to school officials and friends alike, yet she was determined to embrace the Western freedoms that teens her age enjoy. Like many young Muslim girls, she would shake the shackles of oppression and discard the Hijab when she got to school, which by the way is not a requirement according to the Q’uran but a male cultural control maneuver over women.
Said one of her friends:
“I remember we were sitting in the hall one day and Aqsa put on this really nice outfit, like something I would have worn.”
“I told her she looked pretty in it and she said, ‘Thank you, but I shouldn’t be wearing this.’ I asked her why and she said, ‘My dad will kill me if he finds out.’ ”
It was a threat she said was made often.
“I’d tell her she was being overdramatic,”…”I didn’t think it was true.” – National Post
For the misinformed twits who argue on behalf of the full covering of Muslim women and for the so-called ‘rights’ of Islamic women to cover up under Multiculturalism in Canada, it’s a pity Aqsa Parvaz will not be around to debate them. She was murdered while trying to exert her democratic rights under the Canadian Charter.
