When asked what distinguishes the Forum from other like-minded think tanks, I reply along these lines:

The Forum tends to focus on the big picture and the long view. Relying on a deep knowledge of history, culture, and religion, our policy recommendations go beyond the immediate debate and often reach markedly different conclusions than the prevailing wisdom. Some examples:

The "Free Gaza" flotilla incident validates our long-time warnings that formerly secular Turkey was becoming Islamist.

Politicians and diplomats focus exclusively on resolving the Arab-Israeli conflict through Israeli concessions. We alone call for an Israeli victory.

We predict that U.S. efforts to remake Iraq and Afghanistan are doomed to failure.

When apologists excuse Islamist violence by pointing to Judeo-Christian violence in the Bible and throughout history, we show the great differences.

We argue against the simplistic idea that jihadists are driven by political or economic grievances and instead emphasize the role of Islamist ideology.

Although the Obama administration is criticized for not naming radical Islam as the enemy, we stress that such equivocation has roots in prior administrations.

The originality of our approach also assures us of a large and varied audience and inspires many lively debates. In short, focusing on the big picture and long view ensures that we are widely heard and that our words have an impact, both in the U.S. and around the world:

My suggestion that Obama should bomb Iran to save his presidency was seconded by Sarah Palin, sparking massive discussion.

A conference call with human rights activist Magdi Khalil on Islamist persecutions of Christians received much media coverage in Egypt.

My website, DanielPipes.org, has had 56 million page views and is ranked as one of the most read political sites.

The United Kingdom's Royal College of Defence Studies curriculum adopted four articles from the Middle East Quarterly, our flagship scholarly publication.

With Tehran nearing completion of a nuclear bomb, Islamists laboring to subvert Western civilization, Ankara openly allied with America's enemies, and the Obama administration pursuing a weak Middle East policy, there is much work for us to do.
