UANI Announces Times Square Billboard Coinciding with Ahmadinejad's Visit to Manhattan

New York, NY - On Friday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) announced the launch of a Times Square billboard to coincide with President Ahmadinejad's upcoming visit to New York City.

The billboard, located at the corner of 49th Street and 7th Avenue in Times Square, has a picture of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over the New York City skyline and reads "SHOULD NOT BE IN N.Y.: SHOULD NOT BE IN THE UN: VISIT UANI.COM"

The billboard highlights UANI's call for the UN to suspend Iran's rights and privileges given its continued defiance of the UN's Charter and international law. In a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed last month, "Iran Doesn't Belong in the U.N. or IMF," UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace, and UANI President, Ambassador Kristen Silverberg, joined Ambassador John Bolton in calling on the UN to enforce provisions of its charter allowing for the removal of a member that consistently violates the charter's principles.

Speaking about UANI's Times Square billboard, Ambassador Wallace said:

Ahmadinejad and his entourage are not welcome in New York City, and they also shouldn't be welcomed at the UN. Iran should not be treated as a regular member of the UN in good standing given its repeated defiance of international law.

The U.N. Charter provides for the expulsion of any member which has persistently violated its principles. It is time for UN member states to enforce their own principles, and take away Iran's rights and privileges until it stops brutalizing its own people, sponsoring terrorists, and pursuing an illegal nuclear weapons program.

UANI is also protesting the Warwick hotel's irresponsible decision to host Ahmadinejad. Last month, UANI revealed that Ahmadinejad and his delegation will be staying at the Warwick, beginning this weekend. UANI's campaign has already been covered by the Associated Press, CBS 880 Radio, 1010 WINS Radio, Fox 5 News, and the New York Post.

UANI will host a street demonstration outside the Warwick on Monday at 2:00 PM, and be at the Warwick throughout the week with signs, props, chants, and an activity center open to public participation.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a program of the American Coalition Against Nuclear Iran, Inc., a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The prospect of a nuclear-armed Iran should concern every American and be unacceptable to the community of nations. Since 1979 the Iranian regime, most recently under President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's leadership, has demonstrated increasingly threatening behavior and rhetoric toward the US and the West. Iran continues to defy the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the United Nations in their attempts to monitor its nuclear activities. A number of Arab states have warned that Iran's development of nuclear weapons poses a threat to Middle East stability and could provoke a regional nuclear arms race. In short, the prospect of a nuclear armed Iran is a danger to world peace.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a non-partisan, broad-based coalition that is united in a commitment to prevent Iran from fulfilling its ambition to become a regional super-power possessing nuclear weapons.  UANI is an issue-based coalition in which each coalition member will have its own interests as well as the collective goal of advancing an Iran free of nuclear weapons.

The Objectives of United Against a Nuclear Iran
  1. Inform the public about the nature of the Iranian regime, including its desire and intent to possess nuclear weapons, as well as Iran's role as a state sponsor of global terrorism, and a major violator of human rights at home and abroad;
  2. Heighten awareness nationally and internationally about the danger that a nuclear armed Iran poses to the region and the world;
  3. Mobilize public support, utilize media outreach, and persuade our elected leaders to voice a robust and united American opposition to a nuclear Iran;
  4. Lay the groundwork for effective US policies in coordination with European and other allies;
  5. Persuade the regime in Tehran to desist from its quest for nuclear weapons, while striving not to punish the Iranian people, and;
  6. Promote efforts that focus on vigorous national and international, social, economic, political and diplomatic measures.
UANI is led by an advisory board of outstanding national figures representing all sectors of our country.
