According to SVT there’s no basis whatsoever for that – it’s fake news and there’s an agenda behind it. A few days later a young child in a hijab appeared in one of their children’s programmes.
And in a programme initiative for young people, the channel questions why the veil has not previously been shown on Swedish TV.
Journalist Katerina Janouch writes in an article: “Never will it be as clear as when a free Swedish boy stands next to a dark-skinned girl living in a prison [the hijab].”
She also states that in Iran, women are fighting for their right not to wear a veil and they’re imprisoned for it. And she answers SVT’s question about the veil’s previous absence on Swedish TV, with:
“Veils were not shown, because not so long ago Medieval oppression of women didn’t have a place in our secular, democratic and egalitarian society.”
In Expressen Malin Lernfelt writes that it’s worrying that SVT completely ignores the fact that veils are controversial, and a religious and political symbol of women’s subordination around the world.
Criticism of the TV channel’s initiatives has been spread in forums and social media as well.
It is obvious that SVT has no scruples whatsoever when it comes to denying what’s going on – or about their continued normalisation of oppression, sexualisation of children and launching of Islam in Sweden.
