SmartUnsubscribesm View This E-mail As A Web Page Just when it looked like common sense was starting to prevail regarding the Obama Administration’s decision to grant "constitutional rights" to terrorists and try them — including the mastermind of 9-11 — in civilian courts… …White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was deployed to set the American people straight and seemingly turn common sense on its head. According to a report in The Hill: "White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Sunday that the despite reports of mulling new locations to try 9/11 terrorism suspects, the administration still very much wants Khalid Sheikh Mohammed tried in the Big Apple." But that’s not all. Gibbs, in attempting to justify the administration’s position, may have actually provided Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s attorneys with ammo for his defense. On CNN’s "State of the Union," Gibbs made the following declaration: "Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is going to meet justice and he's going to meet his maker. He will be brought to justice and he's likely to be executed for the heinous crimes he committed." On its face, Gibbs’ comment is spot on. But, as reported by Al Jazeera mere hours later: "Legal experts say Gibbs' 'meet his maker' comments are shocking and reduce the chances of a fair trial.... Defense attorney Ramzi Kassem, who is looking after a number of Gitmo and Afghan detainees, told al Jazeera: '... with statements like Mr. Gibb's they are making the prosecutors jobs much more difficult because they are arming defense lawyers with additional argument.'" Make no mistake, now that Barack Obama has waved his magic wand from on high and bestowed constitutional rights on the mastermind of 9-11, there can be no doubt that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s trial will become a three-ring circus... one that may very well aid in the recruitment of more terrorists who will take up arms against the United States. We already know that when U.S. authorities captured Khalid Sheik Mohammed, he made two specific and immediate demands. He demanded an attorney and he demanded to be taken to New York. Now we know why. The only questions that remain are: Why is the Obama Administration moving heaven and earth to give one of the world's most notorious foreign terrorists (who, by the way, was willing to plead guilty to a military court) constitutional rights (to which he is not entitled) and a civilian trial and; Are we going to just stand by and let it happen? According to The Washington Times: "Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell on Sunday threatened to try to cut off the cash the Obama administration will need to shut down the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay and hold terrorism trials in U.S. courts." Senator Lamar Alexander went so far as to say: "We have to make a distinction between a kid who breaks into a sandwich shop in Detroit and a Nigerian terrorist who wants to blow up an airplane flying into Detroit." The editors of The Washington Examiner noted, "[The] decision to 'consider other venues' came after weeks of pounding from local, state and national leaders who pointed out in a thousand different ways the insanity of granting terrorists the same legal rights as American citizens and trying them in our civil courtrooms instead of U.S. military tribunals." And, Congressman Frank Wolf and Senator Lindsay Graham are reportedly about to unveil additional legislation that will shut the door on Barack Obama's almost insane desire to bring foreign terrorists into civilian courts. Now is the time to make it perfectly clear to our elected officials that the American people will not tolerate tough words that are not accompanied by action. Civilian Trials For Terrorists: Obama Administration Policy? Make no mistake; the kid-glove treatment of foreign terrorists is the Obama Administration’s policy. So says The Wall Street Journal: "Ultimately, the national security bureaucracies take their signals from the top. In August Mr. Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder made it clear that their war on terror would be fought inside the framework of Miranda and the civilian justice system." And if that's not a convincer, consider the fact that the Obama administration is considering even more civilian trials for foreign terrorists. According to the Associated Press: "The Obama administration is considering a criminal trial in Washington for [Riduan Isamuddin, Osama bin Laden's point man in Indonesia], the Guantanamo Bay detainee suspected of masterminding the bombing of a Bali nightclub that killed 202 people, a plan that would bring one of the world's most notorious terrorism suspects just steps from the U.S. Capitol...." And the same Associated Press report quotes U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, as saying that the Obama Administration is planning even more trials in Washington D.C. and New York. When will this madness end? It will end when we make it end... right now. The Truth Is Out: Terrorists Have No Constitutional Rights. In spite of what Barack Obama says... in spite of what he thinks... the truth is starting to gain a foothold. The simple fact of the matter is that not only are foreign terrorists not entitled to constitutional rights and civilian trials, but our military is fully capable of giving these terrorists fair trials. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, in The Washington Times, reminded all of us: "Three years ago, we passed military commissions legislation for the specific purpose of trying foreigners captured on the battlefield. They ought to be tried in these military commissions." The Times goes on to report: "Sen. Lamar Alexander, Tennessee Republican, also said the administration should shift the trials to military courts, which he said have been reviewed by Congress to ensure fairness." And even the liberal Washington Post, while advocating in favor of civilian trials begrudgingly admits: "The administration could have prosecuted these defendants in a military commission, which, because of new rules adopted last year, provides many of the same protections and procedures as do traditional federal proceedings." Truth be told, there is no compelling reason to treat foreign terrorists like common criminals. Civilian trials for terrorists are not required by any law. In fact, this arbitrary decision contradicts over 200 years of American jurisprudence. From the time of the Revolutionary War through World War II, we have tried enemy combatants in military courts. Treating foreign terrorists like common domestic criminals does not make us look noble... it makes us look weak to our enemies... it emboldens our enemies. David Beamer, the father of Todd Beamer, who perished on United Flight 93 while trying to re-take the plane from terrorists on 9-11, said of the decision to bring Khalid Sheik Mohammed to New York: "Our enemies must be thrilled. We are willingly handing them an opportunity to inflict economic harm on New York City, keep their cause in the headlines, gather new intelligence, create new terror strategies, stimulate recruiting, celebrate new found rights, and foist a fresh round of pain and suffering upon their victims."
