Email to R.E.A.L. Supporters -
Pamela Geller has announced today that she and Robert Spencer are taking over the lead on the group "Stop Islamisation of America" (SIOA) at the request of "Stop Islamisation of Europe" (SIOE) lead Anders Gravers.

Her announcement is at:
http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2010/04/join-the-sioa-facebook-page.html

This is also announced on the current SIOE web page at:
http://sioe.wordpress.com/

SIOA now has a New York headquarters, and it has a Facebook page.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=110841015612178#!/group.php?gid=110841015612178

The Geller and Spencer led SIOA will be part of the NYC Wednesday rally on April 7 regarding Nigeria Christians.

I am in separate discussions with Nigerian Christians here in the DC area and non-partisan groups about our own event in DC.

Regarding Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) 's position, in September 2009, I addressed our position on the SIOA and SIOE at:
http://www.realcourage.org/2009/09/we-are-not-afraid/

R.E.A.L.'s focus is as a non-partisan human rights group to do more than "preach to the choir," but to reach out to the many who are either unaware of human rights challenges, or have been alienated by past approaches to addressing human rights challenges. Therefore, we have a different approach, a different mission, and a different vision.

SIOA and SIOE's openly state that they promote "Islamophobic" views, with their slogan that "Islamophobia is common sense."

We are consistently pro-human rights.

We offer a message of love and solidarity in consistency on human rights, not graphics of bloody fangs to demonize. We offer an outstretched hand to our fellow human beings, not an upraised fist. Our defiance is one where we stand for what we believe in, not just what we are against - one where primarily we are responsible for equality and liberty. These are more than just different "tactics;" they are a different vision on what really matters.

Our vision is to promote a consistent approach to our universal human rights, including freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, and the religious pluralism that is necessary for such human rights and freedoms.

We do not promote "Islamophobia," as the SIOA and SIOE have repeatedly stated that they do. We share the human rights concerns of all human beings, including Muslims, against supremacism, against extremism, against violence, and against hate. We believe that we can address Islamic supremacism as a legitimate human rights issue, just like any other supremacism or ideology that defies human rights. We can do so while still condemning Islamophobia violence and abuse, as well as other forms of identity-based hate.

My idea behind Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.) was reach out to the people of every political view and identity group that accepts our unqualified, universal human rights. I continue to believe that this is an important outreach to continue, and that it is a true consensus that we can reach on issues from a human rights perspective.

I will have an open conference call to any of you who wish to talk about this on Wednesday, April 7 at 7 PM Eastern, to answer any questions you may have on our position on this.

The conference bridge is: 712-432-0950, Access Code: 452093#

I recognize that in a competition now among "the anti-jihad community" that SIOA would be the Goliath, and R.E.A.L. would very much be the David. In terms of those resources and popularity, I know there is no contest at all. But R.E.A.L.'s credibility has gone to reach out to the much larger human consensus beyond just "the anti-jihad community" - to human rights groups, to religious freedom groups, to civil rights groups. Still I also know that some will find the new SIOA (or whatever it ends up being called) to resonate more with your feelings than R.E.A.L.

I would ask those who do feel that way to stop and think, where do we think we will get 1 year, 2 years, 5 years down the road with an approach that promotes "Islamophobia as common sense." How do you think legislators will react? How do you think the press will react? How do you think the public, including Muslims, will react? How many new minds will be persuaded?

The argument of promoting "Islamophobia" is readily dismissed by many as simply promoting hate or even as "racism." Most stop listening. Yet the genuine human rights abuses, the genuine ideological supremacist issues remain. The oppression of women around the world by Islamic supremacist is real. The oppression of religious minorities around the world by Islamic supremacists is real. The promotion of hate and violence against others by Islamic supremacists is real. The "honor killings" here in America by Islamic supremacists are also real. We have a serious problem. It needs a serious solution.

We need a message to the public that is reasonable, that more will listen to, and that starts not by attacking an identity group but by getting others to step up to defending the truths that we hold self-evident on our universal human rights. Our universal human rights are not just for "Western civilization," but universal human rights that all people - of every ethnicity, of every religion, of every race, of every gender - are entitled to. Our principled stand is not a weak one. It appeals to the greatest strength and the largest consensus of humanity.

I urge you to take a look at our December 10 Human Rights Day event.
http://www.realcourage.org/category/december_10/

There at the National Press Club in Washington DC - with press coverage - we discussed the need for our universal human rights for all. And there for the first time at a national press human rights event, the concept of Islamic supremacism, as another legitimate human rights issue was introduced.

We are reaching many, many people who didn't "get it," and we are reaching many new audiences. We are NOT looking to do more of the same, with a political-based, "Islamophobia"-based argument that has not suceeded in winning significant numbers of hearts and minds in either America or our nation's capital over the past 8 years.

We challenge those who defy human rights, whether it is the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), Hizb ut-Tahrir, foreign nations, or groups here in America - not by demonizing, but by demanding our unqualified, universal human rights for all people. We believe that this is the positive message that will ultimately prevail. We believe that we can challenge ideologies of oppression and hate, and that ultimately human rights and love will win.

I know that some volunteers would rather focus on other more narrow-focused groups today that don't take on such a large goal as being responsible for equality and liberty. The idea of being consistently responsible for equality and liberty is a revolutionary, trail-blazing concept.

But we know for a fact that a lot of the reasons why Islamic supremacism has been allowed to grow without challenge is because many "mature" human rights groups refused to take a stand on it - for decades - such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International. We also know that the hope of reaching the next generation in America is through positive, human rights-oriented missions that offer hope, not hate. But to do so, we needed to come up with a revolutionary, trail-blazing concept - one that has never been done before.

Our argument for a consistent approach to human rights makes R.E.A.L. different and unique. But while we have made hard-won progress in the past year, efforts by groups promoting "Islamophobia" as their goal will slow down our progress.

Our approach is difficult. No one ever said that changing the world would be easy. And that is precisely what it is going to take to get a positive, human rights-based movement against Islamic supremacism - a consistent human rights argument that asks our fellow human beings, to decide that if it is in their interests, and their children's interest - to ultimately be not just against something - but to be responsible for equality and liberty.

I recognize that our approach is more challenging, more complex, and may have less visible supporters than a single focused, pro-"Islamophobia" campaign such as the one from SIOA/SIOE.

I know that all of you are very busy; many of us don't have the time to get involved in such a long-term human rights initiative as R.E.A.L. But on the other hand, can you really afford not to?

Do you really think only having the voice of an "Islamophobia"-based campaign will change things for the better? Think about it.

So I ask you, once again, to consider remaining...

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.)
