(U.S.) George Washington Quoted on Religious Liberty and Tolerance
http://www.realcourage.org/2010/07/george-washington/
http://bit.ly/what-would-george-do
-- August 1790 - George Washington: "The Citizens of the United States of America have a right to applaud themselves for having given to mankind examples of an enlarged and liberal policy: a policy worthy of imitation. All possess alike liberty of conscience and immunities of citizenship. It is now no more that toleration is spoken of, as if it was by the indulgence of one class of people, that another enjoyed the exercise of their inherent national gifts. For happily the Government of the United States, which gives to bigotry no sanction, to persecution no assistance requires only that they who live under its protection should demean themselves as good citizens, in giving it on all occasions their effectual support."

Responsible for Equality And Liberty (R.E.A.L.)

In Arizona, the trial of Faleh Almaleki for the "honor killing" of
his 20 year old daughter in November 2009 has been scheduled to being on
November 29, 2010.
Arizona Republic states:
"A Glendale man accused of slaying his daughter in an 'honor killing'
is scheduled to stand trial later this year. Faleh Almaleki, an Iraqi
immigrant, is suspected of running down his daughter, 20-year-old Noor
Almaleki, for being 'too Westernized.' He was reportedly furious with
Noor for leaving her Iraqi husband, a cousin in an arranged marriage,
and returning to the United States. Police say Almaleki, 49, used his
Jeep Cherokee to run over his daughter and another woman in a Peoria
parking lot Oct. 20, 2009. Noor died of her injuries. The other victim,
Noor's boyfriend's mother, survived."

Religious Pluralism Versus Religious Supremacism
R.E.A.L. supports the freedom of religion, freedom of conscience, and
freedom of worship for all, as guaranteed by the nations of the world
in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), Article 18. Article 18 states:
"Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion;
this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and
freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or
private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice,
worship and observance." We view Article 18 as a fundamental necessity
to ensuring religious pluralism. We support such freedoms for all. We
also recognize that exclusivity in views on religion will exist, whether
such exclusivity is based a personal belief in the validity of only one
religion, or it is based on the belief in the equal validity of
multiple religions. Our support for religious freedom and pluralism is
not a challenge to any religion, but a promotion of religious freedom.
R.E.A.L.'s support for our universal human rights and pluralism, with
an emphasis on Article 18 of the UDHR, calls for such promotion of
religious pluralism, but recognizes the reality of those who seek to
defy our universal human rights with religious arguments. We reject
religious supremacist views that promote hate and intolerance. We
reject religious supremacist ideological arguments that seek to prevent
the universal human rights of all people, based on such arguments. We
reject religious supremacist views that seek to even prevent religious
freedom, freedom of worship, and freedom of conscience for other human
beings, a painful reality that we see too often in the United States and
around the world.
Our definition of such views as religious "supremacism" is not about
denying the personal exclusivity of any religious path to our fellow
human beings, or the exercise or promotion of their religion as part of
their freedoms.
R.E.A.L. promotes religious pluralism, but in doing so, also
challenges those ideologies, groups, and activists who seek to promote a
religious "supremacist" view that seeks to consciously deny others
basic human rights, including the freedom of religion, freedom of
worship, and freedom of conscience necessary for religious pluralism.
In defense of such religious pluralism, we challenge extreme groups
that seek to use arguments that they call "Christian," "Islamic," or
another religious identification to deny others freedom of religion,
worship, and conscience, to call for hate, to call for violence, to
oppress women and minorities, to seek the destruction of our universal
human rights of equality and liberty. We reject anti-human rights views
as "Christian supremacism" or "Islamic supremacism," but we do not
attack or reject Christianity or Islam as a religion. Many of our
supporters are devout members of religious faiths and we respect those
faiths. Our human rights goals are the consistent defense of our
universal human rights. We recognize that religious supremacist views
are difficult and complex discussions. But we also know from history
that "white supremacist" views were once something Americans were
unwilling to define, discuss, or challenge. We believe that to be
honest in our commitment to pluralism, it is necessary to recognize the
existence of religious supremacist views that not only seek to undermine
pluralism, but also seek to undermine religious freedom and freedom of
conscience itself.
Our goal is to protect such religious freedoms for all faiths, based
on pluralist tolerance for our differences, and based on an
uncompromising defense of our Universal Human Rights.

Three Americans Held Captive in Iran: One Year and Counting
http://www.phyllis-chesler.com/831/americans-captive-in-iran
Excerpt: One year ago, Shane Michael Bauer/Bower, Joshua Fattal (whose father is of Iraqi descent), and Sarah Emily Shourd, three young American hikers, were arrested by Iranian forces for having wandered too close to the Iranian border. Charged with "espionage," they remain in the dreadful Evin Prison. Today, Amnesty International has finally demanded their release. Malcolm Smart, Amnesty's International Middle East and North Africa Program director says: "It appears clear that the Iranian authorities do not have substantial grounds to prosecute these three individuals, and we fear that they may be held on account of their nationality." http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/07/norton_mezvinsky_chelsea_clint.html http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/9871
Norton Mezvinsky told the New York Daily News this week that he wasn't invited to the wedding because of a family feud with his nephew that stemmed from his support for his disgraced brother, former Iowa Representative Edward Mezvinsky, whose plans to move to New York and write a book after his release from prison were opposed by nephew Marc. But there's another reason the Clintons might want to keep the Mezvinsky -- who says he's the "senior male member of the family, and Marc's only uncle" -- well away from Rhinebeck on Saturday: Mezvinsky's ties to the conspiracy mongering anti-Semite Lyndon LaRouche. Just last year, Mezvinsky shelled out his own cash to bring LaRouche to speak at Central Connecticut State University, where he taught for 42 years. In February 2009, Mezvinsky spoke to assembled LaRouchites at the Schiller Institute in Rüsselsheim, Germany, which was founded by LaRouche's wife Helga Zepp-LaRouche. That Mezvinsky would invite such a man to campus -- much less pay his expenses -- could be reason enough for the former First Family to treat him like a stranger. LaRouche, after all, has charged Queen Elizabeth II with running a drug cartel and sponsoring the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995. LaRouche has a long history of Israel-bashing. Writing in the August 22, 1978 issue of New Solidarity, he deployed a tactic later used by Holocaust denier David Irving to declare that, "the Nazis did not kill six million Jews, but they did kill upwards of a million and a half." Thus, while not denying the fact of the Holocaust, LaRouche did seek to deny the uniqueness of its horror. In such a scheme, Jews are portrayed as just another victim of the War in a group that includes Poles, Russians, and Gypsies. In the same piece, LaRouche shows himself decades ahead of Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer's own conspiracy-theory-mongering work, The Israel Lobby. He offers an early example of the "linkage theory," which holds that Israel is a strategic burden to the U.S., by claiming that the Zionist lobby is:
These rants weren't lost on the late New York senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, whose imprimatur gave then-New York senate candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton the boost she needed to succeed him in the Senate in 2000. In 1986, Moynihan called LaRouche a "fascist" and an "anti-Semite." Would the mother of the bride forget her esteemed predecessor's words about LaRouche and then publicly associate with his supporter? LaRouche, who spent five years of a 15-year federal prison sentence behind bars for tax code violations and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, claims he was subjected to a "surgical procedure" to torture him while incarcerated. He claimed at the time that with his sentencing, "the vital interests of the United States have been put in jeopardy." Yet Mezvinsky's public statements reveal a high opinion for LaRouche. According to the Executive Intelligence Review, the house organ for LaRouche's conspiracies, during Mezvinsky's introductory remarks at the May 4, 2009 event at Connecticut State, he praised EIR as:
And:
Projection, perhaps, or wishful thinking? Mezvinsky's think tank, the International Council for Middle East Studies (ICMES), is, according to its web site, "located on the premises of the International Law Institute, with office space provided by Professor Don Wallace (Georgetown University), Chair of the ICMES Board of Directors." Given Mezvinsky's potentially embarrassing past support for LaRouche, and his fawning words for the rant-filled Executive Intelligence Review, perhaps he was the family member whose presence just couldn't be tolerated. People may pretend not to notice a crazy old aunt in the attic. But even a $3 million wedding can't hide a LaRouche-supporting uncle in the receiving line. Winfield Myers is director of Campus Watch. Daniel Greenfield article: Friday Afternoon Roundup - Congress of Children
|
Obama and the Democrats are still running the country, but they're swiftly passing the point of return with the public. They still wield power, but without public support, their power comes without any legitimacy attached. The media has been ignoring that sticking point for a while, but no matter what the Jornolist folks though, the media doesn't actually control elections. The perfect storm of media bias in 2008 helped rig the election, but that only worked when the public was unhappy and didn't strongly favor either side. Rigging the election now and in 2012 will be a lot harder, no matter how much bias flows through the sewage pipes of the handful of struggling media conglomerates still left standing. And the media knows it too. They know which bandwagons to jump on, and which bandwagons to jump off. And the Obama bandwagon is headed into a deserted station. The outrage over the 9/11 health care workers bill, in which Dems tried to ram through more hidden measures under the guise of paying for health care for Ground Zero workers, is the latest flashpoint in a conflict over an administration and a congress unwilling to work together with the opposition, and determined to get its way by hook or by crook. The reports of Obama plotting to bypass congress for a limited amnesty, are on par with how ObamaCare was shoved under the door. And the public has gotten tired of these games. Scott Brown's victory was a warning from voters in one of America's more liberal states, that they were fed up with the one-note power crazed politics of the Democratic party. But the Democrats didn't listen, which means they'll be forced to listen. Because America is still a democracy. And that means accountability comes sooner or later, when the people get around to voting. The Obama Administration and congressional Democrats thought that the Obama cult of personality they were building would make them bulletproof. They were deeply wrong. The cult collapsed with a roar of laughter around the time Prince Barry got his Nobel Peace Prize for absolutely nothing. Now it's just touring the world, and playing golf, while everything goes to hell. The 9/11 Ground Zero bill was an obscenely cynical charade, that removes any right whatsoever for the Democrats to criticize the Patriot Act, rolling in their own legislation, depriving the opposition of any ability to modify the bill, and pushing it out there, assuming that the Republicans wouldn't have the guts to vote it down, no matter what is actually in the bill. Weiner's temper tantrum is embarrassing. It gives the Netroots exactly what they want. Angry hysterical Democrats acting like children, because they can't get their way. Of course Weiner wasn't screaming at Obama, when Prince Barry's administration tried to cut off 9/11 funding for New York, because the city's politicians stood up to him on holding the trials for Al Queda in Lower Manhattan. But this isn't about 9/11. It's about politics. Cynical politics by spoiled brats in dark suits. What began with MoveOn.org, ends with immaturity and juvenile tantrums from overgrown infants who feel they never got their way. Right up to the Infant in Chief himself. And as it began, so it begins to end. Shamefully and pathetically. The Democrats are raising their spending limits to try and hold on... even as they keep spending the country's money even faster. And their ad buy focuses on a 10 point list which warns potential voters that Republican victories would lead to a repeal of ObamaCare, DoddFinance and create tax breaks. The rest of it tries to convince voters that Republics will abolish the EPA, the Department of Education and the 17th amendment. Somehow the DCCC will not be claiming that the Republican party will be bringing back slavery-- but only just by a little. The obvious problem is that the public supports a repeal of ObamaCare and hates Congress. So the Democrats are left with a strategy that warns people that Republicans will destroy all their "good work", which the public opposes anyway, or trafficking in alarmist conspiracy theories. And somehow they decided to do both. The DCCC asks people to sign on to help fight the "Tea Party, which is probably the worst campaign slogan in some time, because it frames a showdown between populism and the establishment, which all the attempts to tie together Republicans and the Tea Party won't upset. And the news gets even worse for them. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's multi-million dollar ad buy across 60 congressional districts makes a statement that the party will come to the front lines to hold the House of Representatives. But what are they fighting against? But that's not the worst part... A generic congressional ballot was about evenly split among registered voters in these districts (45 percent said they'd vote for the Democrat in their district, 48 percent the Republican), however, nearly six in 10 (57 percent) said that regardless of their own vote, they would prefer to have "the Republicans in charge of Congress to act as a check on Obama's policies." What that means is the Democrats cannot win as a party, only as individual Democrats who disassociate themselves from Obama and the rest of the party. Because a lot of voters are somewhat okay with their own congressmen, but distrust Obama and hate the Democratic congress as a whole. The DCCC should be doing damage control, instead of launching more attacks on the Tea Party, but it's pretty hard to do damage control, when you don't acknowledge that you did anything wrong. A few halting attempts are being made to maybe, possibly repeal some of the worst sections of ObamaCare, but it's too little and too late For the first time, House Democrats are proposing repealing a piece of the health care overhaul, one that small businesses have been warning is going to be overly burdensome. Honesty alone should compel them to repeal the whole mess and start over with something workable, where everyone knows what they are voting for. Which is exactly what Brown proposed. Meanwhile Prince Barry trotted off to Detroit to show off GM's new magic wondercar (TM) And he made sure to send a shout out to Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick. Detroit Mayor and Hall of Famer Dave Bing is in the house. (Applause.) Two senators who have been fighting for you each and every day, Carl Levine and Debbie Stabenow, are here. (Applause.) Wonderful Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick is here. (Applause.) Who's that wonderful woman? The mother of convicted Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Which is handy because Carolyn herself was subpoenaed to testify before a grand jury in March. And despite trailing in the election, and low on funds, and Obama is there to help. And, Hoekstra says despite the efforts by the White House to proclaim Obama’s visit a trip about autos, there’s definitely a political tinge. And that's how it goes. But the good news is that Nancy Pelosi finally has her own handbag. She can use it to pack and get out of here. Continuing the roundup, at IsraPundit, Gingrich and Palin again appear to be the only two prospective GOP Presidential candidates who are taking on Islam. Compare that to Huckabee. Of course Gingrich had to modify that by emphasizing those Muslims who live in "the modern world" who are just fine. I'm guessing that would include the Times Square Car bomber who was on Facebook, the Fort Hood Shooter who was an American born graduate and a medical professional? Just modern people who pose no threat at all. But Islam and technology get along quite well. Just take a look at this wonderful use of technology. Saudi technology guards against women escaping Just more modern people who live in the modern world, who treat women like slaves. Of course the article claims that this sort of thing has nothing to do with the Koran. Nothing at all. "Narrated 'Aisha: "The things which annul the prayers were mentioned before me. They said, "Prayer is annulled by a dog, a donkey and a woman (if they pass in front of the praying people)." I said, "You have made us (women) dogs." No wonder even more than half of Canadians want to ban the Burqa. Robert Avrech rounds up some of the responses to Cameron's shameless toadying to Turkey And see more at Steven Plaut's article in the Jewish Press Famagusta, Cyprus: The ghost town lies near the very center of the city, just outside the Venetian walls. It is home only to snakes, scorpions, and rats of a hundred varieties. Signs on the fences around the ghost town show armed Turkish soldiers threatening those taking photographs with arrest or worse. The crumbling buildings inside the perimeter are frozen in time in 1974, as if in an episode of "The Twilight Zone." This is only an excerpt, but the entire thing is well worth reading. The Cyprus Action Network meanwhile has a release showing a certain affinity between the current Turkish regime and the Nazis A counter demonstration was staged and closely supervised by Gunay Evinch, of the law firm Evinch and Saltzman. Gunay Evinch is widely acknowledged as “the lawyer of the Turkish Embassy.” Gunay Evinch has defended Turkey from American lawsuits by Greek-Cypriot Americans, he is the President of the Turkish Lobby. Gunay Evinch is a promoter of Armenian genocide denial within the United States and the source of Turkish invasion of Cyprus denial propaganda for Turkey in America. You can see the videos via the following link And for more ethnic cleansing and bigotry, let's turn to Abbas (Oh My Valve) "I will never allow a single Israeli to live among us on Palestinian land.” And then there's the Sharia finance MasterCard (See SquareMile Wife) The first halal payment card is now available across Canada. While the initial need to design the iFreedom Plus MasterCard came from the Muslim community (under Islamic law, paying interest is not halal, and so is a perceived sin), this prepaid, no interest card is ideal for everyone. Holders load their own money (up to $6,000) onto the card, then spend it when they need to. "A lot of people view this as more stress-free shopping because they're actually using money they have rather than ringing up their credit card and getting a huge bill," says Omar Kalair, the president and CEO of UM Financial, which launched the card with MasterCard. And where does all that money go? One of RS Foundation's partners is Human Concern International. HCI has an interesting "history" "In a 1995 interview, Osama bin Laden identified Blessed Relief’s place in his network, “The bin-Laden Establishment’s aid covers 13 countries . . . this aid comes in particular from the Human Concern International Society.” Another partner is the IDRF, which is partnered with Islamic Relief Worldwide, which is also clean as a whistle Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) is an international Islamic aid organization that was founded in United Kingdom, in 1984, by Dr Hany El Banna. It was reported in 1999 that IRW's main UK office received $50,000 from a Canadian group that "the U.S. Treasury Department called 'a(n Osama) bin Laden front.' Moscow's Obshchaya Gazeta has reported that IRW has collected and funneled millions of dollars to the Chechen terrorist rebels in Russia, who have ties to al Qaeda. ...Religion of Peace. Rusin • Jul 30, 2010 at 10:35 am http://www.islamist-watch.org/blog/2010/07/ramadan-controversies-start-early
The new moon that signals the dawn of Ramadan remains a week and a half away, but wrangling over accommodations during the Islamic holy month is already in full swing. First, the city council of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England, has offered guidance to schools regarding Muslim students who partake of the daytime fast covering both food and drink. Believe it or not, its official recommendations are cribbed from Towards Greater Understanding, a brazenly Islamist document on "meeting the needs of Muslim pupils in state schools," issued in 2007 by the increasingly radical Muslim Council of Britain. The adopted Ramadan advice includes: no swimming lessons ("the potential for swallowing water is very high"), no sex education (Muslims must "avoid sexual thoughts"), rearrange tests ("preparing for exams and fasting may prove challenging"), ready "a larger area for daily prayers," steer clear of parent meetings in the evening ("a very busy period for Muslim families"), and "build on this spirit" through "collective worship." What, no canceling of music classes too? And rather than simply excusing Muslims from certain activities, the guide suggests depriving all students of swimming, sex ed, etc. so as not to make Muslims feel disadvantaged. Such policies are wildly excessive, maddeningly disruptive to the routines of others, and thus unacceptable. IW cannot improve on the words of Terry Sanderson, president of the National Secular Society: "It is wrong that everyone in schools should be forced to observe Islamic laws when they may have no meaning for them." Second, Minnesota, which has witnessed numerous conflicts over Islam in the workplace, experienced another when the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) protested a policy banning food on the production floor at the Electrolux appliance plant in St. Cloud; it demanded that Muslims on the evening shift be able to enjoy a snack there immediately after sundown. The company soon buckled, allowing Muslims to leave their machines and eat in a separate area. Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act stipulates that "employers must reasonably accommodate employees' sincerely held religious practices unless doing so would impose an undue hardship" on either the employers or other workers. The compromises in this case are not unreasonable. However, it is a shame that clumsy companies put themselves in positions where they are seen as bowing to CAIR, thus lending undeserved legitimacy to a terror-linked Islamist organization. Finally, the NYPD will increase patrols of mosques this Ramadan due to fear of bias attacks. Robert Spencer wisely notes that while real threats must be combated vigorously, Islamist groups have a long record of exaggerating the prevalence of hate crimes in order to claim victim status. Indeed, CAIR recently embarrassed itself once more, postulating that a Georgia mosque might have been set ablaze because of anti-Muslim animus; police later arrested a Muslim suspect. Question: will the NYPD also step up patrols of relevant locales during the Jewish and Christian holidays on which global jihadists often strike — or would that be Islamophobic?
