FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 4, 2011 Contact: Nathan Carleton, press@uani.com Phone: (212) 554-3296 UANI Applauds State of California for Strongly Enforcing Iran Debarment Legislation California has Published List of Companies Barred from Receiving State Contracts New York, NY - On Tuesday, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded the State of California for its enforcement of the Iran Contracting Act of 2010, which was based on UANI model legislation. Recently, California's Department of General Services, Procurement Division, published a list of 63 companies who are now barred from doing business with California due to their work in Iran. The list is available online, and entitled: "Entities Prohibited from Contracting with Public Entities in California per the Iranian Contracting Act, 2010." Said UANI President, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace: UANI applauds the State of California for enforcing the Iran Contracting Act, and for publicly listing 63 companies who are doing business in Iran. California has now forced these companies to choose between the Iranian regime's money and U.S. tax dollars. UANI will continue working with California and other states to identify companies that do business in Iran and hold them accountable. Other states should follow California's lead by passing strong contract debarment laws of their own. Legislatures across America can do their part to pressure Iran's regime as it pursues an illegal nuclear weapons program, sponsors terrorists, and threatens the U.S. and its allies. In June, the Financial Times reported on California's passage and enforcement of the Iran Contracting Act, and the role UANI has played in helping California identify companies that do business in Iran. Several multinational corporations, including Layher and ABB ended their business in Iran after being contacted by California DGS. The Iran Contract Act is an adaptation of UANI model legislation, the "Iran Business Certification Act," which was introduced in U.S. Congress as "The Accountability for Business Choices in Iran Act." UANI has called on other states to follow the lead of California (and also Florida) in passing UANI-modeled contract debarment legislation.
