Three RCMP officers killed in the line of duty were remembered Tuesday as family men who were proud to be Mounties.

Royal Canadian Navy Master Seaman Daniel Larche eulogized his younger brother Doug, telling mourners packed into the Moncton Coliseum that a great man had been taken away far too soon.

Constable Dave Ross’s brother-in-law described how Ross was barbecuing dinner last Wednesday evening when he answered a call about an armed man — responding so quickly he left the barbecue lid up.

Constable Fabrice Gevaudan was remembered as a man who gave of himself and made a difference in the world.

Before the funeral service, a procession of about 2,700 police officers wound its way through the city with pipers and drummers leading the mourners.

Members of the RCMP and municipal police forces, as well as correctional officers and U.S. border patrol officers, were among those who marched to the Moncton Coliseum, which can hold about 7,000 people.
