Visit our News page Here’s How Every Chapter Can Have at Least One Representative Attend the 2014 National Conference and Legislative Briefing This important notice is being sent to chapter leaders and chapter volunteers nationwide. Every year, as our National Conference attendees experience the final moments of the conference, we hear the accolades for this great event once again. It is becoming a tradition for so many of our supporters around the nation and a real encouragement to our elected officials who really need our support. It is also an amazing cross-pollination of key contacts and ideas that work to keep the nation secure. You can’t duplicate what happens when hundreds of the top leaders and activists around the nation actually mingle. Away from the long distance communication……. and instead actually shaking hands, forging ideas, learning from others who have been there, a certain collaborative magic begins to happen. You walk away feeling on top of the world with a spring in your step and hope – based on the facts – that winning our battles is achievable. This year, our attendance looks to be higher than ever based on our projections. We’ve raised scholarship funds for 60 high school and college students to be able to attend and the available slots are going fast! (If you know an exceptional student who would love to use a $500 scholarship towards the cost of the event, let Carrie know at: csouth@actforamerica.org ) The bottom line is that this can’t miss event should have at least one person from your chapter attending. You will return – charged up and invigorated – for the challenges ahead! This representative can be the chapter leader or a designated chapter representative. Several methods to achieve this objective are as follows: Identify and recruit any potentially self-funded chapter members with the financial means to attend. Hold a garage sale with chapter members all donating unwanted items where the proceeds go to the “national conference trip fund.” Hold similar events such as bake sales, car washes, etc until the funds are raised. Have a drawing within the chapter to determine who gets to go if more than one person wants to go and your chapter only has enough funds for one representative. For instance, if 12 people all give $100 each, they each put one raffle ticket into the hat. The winner goes to DC. If one person gives $200, they put 2 tickets into the hat so that they have a better chance of winning commensurate with their investment. You can also add your garage sale / car wash / bake sale proceeds to this fund to help it grow. There is still time for you to be there!
