Fars (Iran): "Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that Iran will powerfully continue the talks with the six world powers (the US, Russia, China, France and Britain plus Germany), but it would never give up its inalienable nuclear rights. 'We will sit at the negotiating table with the world powers with our distinguished and powerful diplomats who have sufficient experience in different areas and God willingly we will protect our nuclear rights and will bring back calm and welfare to the people,' President Rouhani said, addressing a large gathering of people in the Northwestern city of Ardebil on Wednesday morning. He noted that although Iran is under the West's sanctions and the government has made good progress in removal of the embargoes, the obstacles still exist. President Rouhani said that the structure of the sanctions against Iran has cracked, and added, 'We will release $7 billion of Iran's frozen assets by November 24.' The Iranian president pointed to the current talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UN Security Council members plus Germany), and said, 'Our enemies feel that they can attack the Islamic system while due to the guidance and leadership of (Iran's) Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) and people's epical presence on different scenes we will soon break the structure of the oppressive sanctions which are wrong and illegal.'" http://t.uani.com/1pKMyxG

Press TV (Iran): "Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has lashed out at Israel after the Zionist regime resumed pounding the besieged Gaza Strip, saying Tel Aviv is a murderous regime... Rouhani also warned against the existing instability across the Middle East, including Takfiri ISIL's crimes in Iraq, and noted, 'The Syrian people have lost their homes and the murderers [have now] targeted the oppressed Palestinians and Gazans with their bombs and missile fire.' 'Today in Iraq, the oppressed people are put to the sword of murderers who, unfortunately, claim deviously to [be promoting] Islam, but in practice they are mercenaries of the Zionists and have made millions of Iraqis, including Kurds, Sunnis and Shias homeless,' said Rouhani addressing the Wednesday gathering of people in the northwestern Iranian city of Ardebil. 'Today the people of Iraq, Syria and Palestine are turning their eyes to the brave Iranian nation for assistance. Therefore, we should maintain our unity and solidarity,' Rouhani pointed out." http://t.uani.com/1odfc5z

WT: "U.S. and Israeli officials offer varying assessments on the depth of the current level of material support being provided to Hamas by Tehran, although sources in both Washington and Jerusalem say longtime Iranian assistance is what ultimately helped the Palestinian group build the thousands of rockets it fired at Israeli targets from Gaza starting in July... The officials said there is substantial evidence Iran has provided weapons and missile-building know-how and technology to Hamas over the past decade, even as the extremist group was building on its own the vast majority of rockets that it fired into Israel over the past two months." http://t.uani.com/1AxTJwJ

Sanctions Relief

Trend: "Iran inflation will fall below 20 percent by the end of the current calendar year (March 20, 2015). 'When I took office last year, I vowed to decrease the inflation rate to below 25 percent by the end of the current calendar year, but I now promise that the inflation will fall below 20 percent by the mention time,' Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Aug. 20, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported. He went on to note that the country struggled with an inflation rate of 40 percent last year. 'When the government started its work, I promised that the inflation would fall below 35 by the end of the year (March 20) and as you saw, the inflation rate stood at 34 percent at the end of the year,' Rouhani added." http://t.uani.com/XA9KV2

Domestic Politics

Reuters: "Iran's parliament voted to dismiss the minister of science on Wednesday, removing an official viewed with distrust by conservatives and dealing a blow to moderate President Hassan Rouhani's liberalization program. An impeachment motion passed by the assembly accused Reza Faraji-Dana, the Minister of Science, Research and Technology, of allowing students expelled from university following anti-government unrest in 2009 to return to campus. The vote, reported by official media, marks the first major ousting from office of a government minister since Rouhani's landslide election victory in 2013. Rouhani's win had raised hopes among liberals in the Islamic Republic for an easing of curbs on political and social activity, but his administration has not made significant policy changes on political freedoms." http://t.uani.com/1mlzf1Y

At least 10 prisoners were executed in the Gehzelhesar prison of Karaj according to the 'human rights activists' news agency' (HRANA). The executions took place early today August 18, said the report. Iran Human Rights (IHR) has confirmed the executions." http://t.uani.com/1vh9Bkf

Al-Monitor: "The Association of Iranian Journalists (AIJ) have written an open letter to President Hassan Rouhani expressing regret that instead of pushing to have their guild reopened the president proposed a less controversial plan of starting a new guild." http://t.uani.com/1rmaTN7
