The terrifying reality of the scale of atrocities planned by ISIS have been revealed by the first Western journalist allowed inside the regime who reported the brutal terrorists are "enthusiastic about killing hundreds of millions of people".

German reporter Jurgen Todenhofer spent 10 days inside Islamic State controlled territory in Northern Iraq - the first Western journalist to gain access to the terrifying regime which beheaded Brits David Haines and Alan Henning.

But Todenhofer warned that despite ISIS' shocking actions so far in 2014, the worst is yet to come.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4's Today programme, he said: "The first strong impression is that ISIS is much stronger than I thought, much cleverer."

He said the extremist fighters have an "incredible enthusiasm and sense of victory", with total certainty that they will win the war for the Middle East.

He described how he saw hundreds of fighters arriving each day to join ISIS, with recruits from all over the world and all walks of life.

They include graduates - with one lawyer telling Todenhofer he had turned down a job offer to come and fight in Iraq - as well as recruits from Sweden, Britain, and America.

Todenhofer said the ISIS "caliphate" appeared to be working as a state, with the terrorists displaying well-established arrangements for security, and care for the poor - arrangements that have been accepted by many of the communities the group now controls.

Todenhofer said: "It was more normal than I expected. The popultaion is tolerating them, accepting them because they are Sunnis, and they have been discriminated against by a Shia governent."

Inside ISIS: Jurgen Todenhofer spent 10 days with fighters inside Islamic State controlled territory
He said that the fighters display an "enthusiasm" about "killing hundreds of millions of people", adding that Cambodian Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot was "nothing in comparison" and Al Qaeda are "peanuts".

He concluded chillingly: "I do not see anybody who has a real chance to stop them."

"Only Arabs can stop IS, the Western countries will never stop IS."

His comments come a day after it was revealed that terrified women captured by Islamic State are strangling each other or killing themselves to escape rape and torture as sex slaves.
