Tourists remained inside, and silence descended over the resort of Sousse in Tunisia a day after 38 people were killed in a violent terrorist attack.

- The rest of the holiday will take place in the room, if we go out it is at our own risk, says one tourist.

- We are not allowed to leave the hotel. If we do, it is at our own risk, says the Norwegian tourist Didrik Danielsen to the news agency TT.

The Islamic extremist group Islamic state (IS) has in a Twitter statement claimed responsibility for the attack, where tourists who were at the beach or hotels nearby, were shot and killed by a Muslim terrorist.

On Saturday loungers stood empty and the pool area was virtually deserted. Most of the tourists in Sousse have locked themselves in the hotel room for fear of going out, says Danielsen. He stays at the hotel next to where the terrorists opened fire on the beach and at the pool area.

- It was a shock. We have read about terror and seen it on TV. Now suddenly we were in the midst of it, says the Norwegian tourist.

Swedish tourists were already on Friday evening flown home from Tunisia as a result of the terrorist attack on the hotel in Sousse.

It is the Swedish chapter of the travel agency Detur that made sure to bring a large percentage of the tourists home. The 39 Swedes who are left, will be brought home on Tuesday via Copenhagen, according to a spokesman.

- Now it is said that hopefully we will get to go home in the afternoon or in the evening, the Swedish tourist Henrik Forsberg, said to the news agency TT.

The family was supposed to stay in Tunisia for two weeks, but now they just want to go home.

- We have not slept much tonight, one does not feel safe, he said.

British tour operators are sending ten planes to Tunisia to evacuate 2,500 British tourists.

Most of the 38 killed were Britons, said Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid.

Travel agencies Thomas Cook and First Choice said that their clients ended up right in the terrorist attack.

- While the situation on the ground is still unclear, it has been confirmed that a number of those killed and wounded are customers of Thomson and First Choice, the two companies write in a statement.

It also says that about 2,500 customers to be brought back to Britain by ten flights from Thomson Airways.

After two terrorist attacks in a short time, Tunisia is finished as a tourist destination, several tourist said.
