Iranian Regime Pledges to Continue Hostilities Against U.S. and Israel in Aftermath of Nuclear Deal

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE September 2, 2015 Phone: (212) 922-0063 press@uani.com Iranian Regime Pledges to Continue Hostilities Against U.S. and Israel in Aftermath of Nuclear Deal  Despite the July 14 signing of the Iran nuclear deal, formally known as the "Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action" (JCPOA), the Iranian regime continues to express hostility to America and Israel. On July 18, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted "Death to Israel" and "Death to America" as "slogans of the people of Iran" and declared "the whole nation was shaken by these slogans." He declared that despite this agreement, "our policy towards the arrogant government of America will not change in any way." On August 17 he added, "We must combat the plans of the arrogance [i.e. the West, led by the U.S.] with jihad for the sake of Allah... Iran's regional policy is the opposite of America's." The supposed "moderates" of the regime have echoed this extremist rhetoric. On August 20, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the "aggressive, occupying Zionist regime is not bound by the laws of society and of humanity. It takes no pity on men, children and women, and continues to kill and rape [them]." On August 31, Rouhani added that the "fake Zionist regime" was "created based on terrorism" and survives through continued use of terrorism. On September 1, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who led nuclear negotiations for Iran, called for the "formation of a united front against the Zionist enemy," which he identified as "the biggest enemy of peace and security in the region." These hostile words are clearly troubling and should raise concern about the likelihood that the regime will continue its hostile actions against U.S. and Israeli interests once it is empowered with the approximately $100 billion in unfrozen assets that it will receive under the terms of the JCPOA.
