Outgunned and outnumbered: SAS hero storms ISIS hideout and kills six to foil ambush
AN SAS hero foiled an Islamic State (ISIS) ambush by killing six jihadis single-handedly in Syria.
The British soldiers were outnumbered but still managed to wipe out the ambush, shooting eight terrorists dead in a fierce exchange of fire. Six were taken out by one brave trooper using an automatic shotgun.
The SAS team had arranged a meeting with Syrian nationals after crossing the border from neighbouring Iraq when they walked into the trap.
Fearing more ISIS fanatics were cornering them, the group decided to abandon the mission but needed to destroy at least two enemy positions to make a quick getaway.
One brave solider armed with an Origin-12 shotgun stepped up to the task.
The new model fires 12-gauge shells in eight seconds and its drum magazine can discharge more shots than a similar weapon.
Other SAS members fired automatic weapons to cover the soldier, who has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, while he reloaded.
The soldier kicked open the door and showered bullets as he moved from room to room.
Six ISIS militants were killed within minutes and another three had fled.
At least two other jihadis were killed in a separate shoot-out which allowed the SAS team and their agent to escape.
They were out-gunned and out-numbered but the team remained calm and focused
"They were out-gunned and out-numbered but the team remained calm and focused.
“The last thing the jihadis expected was to be attacked, given that the SAS team consisted of eight men and there were at least 30 enemy fighters.
"The SAS quickly regained the initiative by using courage, aggression and firepower.”
It was one of the first times that Origin-12 - equipped with a silencer and lights - has been used in battle by the SAS, the source added.
The model, described as a 'force multiplier', is used regularly by US Seal Teams and the Delta Force because of the weight of firepower it can put down very quickly.
The agent was successfully sent to Syria several days later at another border crossing point and has been able to pass on crucial intelligence to the US Joint Special Operations Command in Iraq - the centre for US and British special forces operating in Syria.
