IRAN NUCLEAR DEAL

[E]vidence of non-compliance with the deal has continued to accrue. Meanwhile, the wealth generated by the nuclear accords, never percolated down to the people of Iran. Once promoted as a means to an end, the deal has since its signing become, particularly to its European champions, a sacred end in itself. The US, on the other hand, is adopting an approach that takes into account Iran's actions... All of this signals the emergence of a new approach that places the actual security of the region above the sanctity of the deal. If the accord is to survive, it must be revised and reformed.

IRAN PROTESTS & HUMAN RIGHTS

An attorney for an ailing elderly American imprisoned in Iran since early 2016 is pleading with the Iranian government to permanently release him after granting him a temporary medical parole, arguing that returning the man to prison would amount to a "death sentence."

The juvenile-offender was 17 when she committed the crime.  Iran Human Rights (IHR) had reported the execution of a woman on Tuesday, January 30. Further research revealed that the executed woman was named Mahbubeh Mofidi who was 17 at the time of the crime.

Back in 1979, all women in Iran were required by law to cover their hair, arms, and legs in public... OTHER TERRORISM & EXTREMISM

Speaking at the annual conference of the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, State Department Counterterrorism Coordinator Nathan Sales announced on January 31 that Washington has placed new terrorist designations on Palestinian and Egyptian entities... The designations touch on two issues of particular interest to the Trump administration: Iranian sponsorship of terrorism and Muslim Brotherhood-inspired violence.

SYRIA & IRAN

France's foreign ministry on Thursday condemned a series of bombing raids in rebel-held areas of Syria and called on Russia and Iran, as allies of the government, to urgently end the attacks and ensure humanitarian aid entered the regions.

A United Nations humanitarian task force has been unable to make deliveries to desperate Syrians for the past two months as President Bashar al-Assad's government has withheld approval for aid convoys, the U.N. humanitarian adviser said on Thursday. Before they can move into besieged areas or across front lines, the convoys require letters from the government and security guarantees from armed groups.
