UANI Statement on AB Volvo's Decision to Cease Doing Business with Iran

(New York, NY) -- United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) President David Ibsen and Research Director Daniel Roth today released the following statement regarding the Swedish automaker AB Volvo's decision to cease its business operations in Iran:

"AB Volvo's acknowledgment of the difficulties associated with conducting business in Iran and subsequent exit from the country is the latest in a mass exodus of international companies that are abandoning Iran after the U.S. withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, also known as the Iran deal, and the re-imposition of sanctions. We applaud AB Volvo for finally coming to terms with the massive risks associated with Iran business. The vast majority of European companies simply do not want to do business with the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism, and those that do cannot effectively manage their operations given the poor business environment. Therefore, it remains puzzling why European Union officials have repeatedly attempted to convince or even force businesses to do otherwise, most recently through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) designed to circumvent said sanctions. European policy-makers should not force European business leaders to deal with Iran."

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a non-partisan, broad-based coalition that is united in a commitment to prevent Iran from fulfilling its ambition to become a regional super-power possessing nuclear weapons.  UANI is an issue-based coalition in which each coalition member will have its own interests as well as the collective goal of advancing an Iran free of nuclear weapons.
