Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wants an American-like, left-leaning mainstream media for Canada—and is investing more than half a billion taxpayers’ dollars to get it.
Watching from the country next door how the American media, which supplies a 90-plus-percent negative coverage of all things President Donald Trump and whose blatant intent is to drive him out of office, Trudeau wants a 90% left-leaning media in place for Canada’s upcoming 2019 federal election.

While seen by the outside world as handsome and sexy, Trudeau, who identifies as a “feminist”, is much more brutish on Canadian soil.As he eyes his reelection, Justin Trudeau, who plays for keeps, is coming on like a Banana Republic dictator.
Buying the media is buying the Election.
This is what Trudeau was doing before blowing more than half a billion dollars for the domestic media:
It was only weeks ago when dictatorial Trudeau publicly defended a decision by Statistics Canada to compel banks and financial institutions to release the personal transaction data of 500,000 people without their consent.
“Conservative House Leader Candice Bergen grilled Trudeau during question period Monday following a report by Global News that revealed Statistics Canada is asking the country’s nine largest banks for the transaction data of 500,000 randomly chosen Canadians, including everything from bill payments to cash withdrawals from ATMs to credit card payments and even account balances.
(Global News, Oct.29, 2018)
“StatCan has said it has the legal authority to do so — even without informing Canadians or getting their consent — in order to build a personal information data bank to analyze things like consumer trends and spending habits.
“With a long history of government privacy breaches, Canadians are rightly worried,” Bergen said. “Why are the Liberals collecting the personal data of Canadians without telling them?”
“Trudeau said his government would ensure that all personal information would be protected and the anonymized data will be used for statistical purposes only.
“High quality and timely data are critical to ensuring that government programs remain relevant and effective for Canadians,” the prime minister said.
“Bergen called on Trudeau to “immediately assure Canadians that this intrusion into their lives will be stopped.”
“It was the Conservative government who chose to stop the long-form census,” Trudeau shot back. “What that led to was more policy based on ideology and less policy based on evidence like we are doing now. Their attacks on data and information continue.”
“The uproar over the Statistics Canada initiative has renewed debate over how personal information is collected and analyzed in Canada. The agency has cited the Statistics Act and a section of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).Now the Trudeau government is taking more than one half a billion Canadian tax dollars to prop up the Canadian ‘news’ media:
“Statistics Canada has said that once the data is compiled by the agency it will be made anonymous in order to remove personal identifiers and said it has informed the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada of the initiative it hopes to have up and running by January.
“However, as a new sample of Canadians will be chosen each year, Statistics Canada’s personal information bank could grow into the millions.”
“The federal government will start subsidizing Canadians’ subscriptions and donations to news media, as well as newsroom salaries, while leaving it up to a panel of journalists to decide which agencies should qualify. (Winnipeg Free Press, Nov. 21, 2018)
“Ottawa earmarked more than a half-billion dollars for media over the next five years, in the economic statement Finance Minister Bill Morneau tabled in Parliament Wednesday.
“It’s necessary to have a journalism sector that is robust in our democracy,” Morneau told reporters.
“The government outlined three policy planks for the news industry.
“The government is proposing a non-refundable, 15 per cent tax credit “for subscriptions to Canadian digital news media.”
“This would likely cover roughly two months of an annual digital subscription to publications such as the Winnipeg Free Press.
“The Liberals say this would be a temporary measure to ease legacy media’s transition to digital offerings; they have not said how long the subsidy would run.
“News organizations would also be eligible for a permanent tax credit to “support labour costs associated with producing original news content,” covering both non- and for-profit companies.
“The third measure would allow newsrooms to receive charitable donations and issue tax receipts. This would apply only to “non-profit journalism organizations that produce a variety of news and information of interest to Canadians.”
“American media have taken such measures for years, and last March the Liberals hinted at introducing them here.
“Ottawa expects the three initiatives would cost $565 million over a five-year period, ending in March 2024.
“Officials said they haven’t determined how much each of the three measures would cost.
“Similarly, they could not explain why they expect it would cost only $45 million in the next fiscal year, before tripling two years later.”
“A senior Finance Canada source said the government is looking to align its tax policy on all digital with other developed countries through discussions led by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.”
Hopes of effectively blocking the Liberals from buying the 2019 election are somewhat dim
Barely mentioned in media reports on the half a billion dollar boost for Canadian media is that government already pays out $1 billion dollars a year to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) from the public purse.Meanwhile, hopes of effectively blocking the Liberals from buying the 2019 election are somewhat dim, given that the Conservatives’ defense of Canada against Liberal policies have been somewhat tepid, including waiting until after summer break in going after Trudeau for awarding $10 million to convicted terrorist Omar Khadr in 2017
Like the U.S. media, the Canadian media is currently dominated by the Left. There are few independent media outlets operating on Canadian soil, and Conservative media is suppressed by the social media of the day.
There is some hope on the horizon that independent, former Conservative MP Maxime Bernier will inspire Canadians to get out and vote on election day, 2019.
For now we can all hope that Thornhill Conservative MP Peter Kent, a former prominent Canadian journalist, is right when he says “They (the Liberals) don’t stand a chance.”
The take-away from Justin Trudeau’s latest worrisome move, is that while the leftwing media may be up for sale, the average Canadian IS NOT.
