In a continuing story, police arrested Hussein, a female Sudanese journalist
and 12 other women wearing trousers at a Khartoum restaurant on July 3. Two
days later 10 of the women accepted a punishment of 10 lashes, but Hussein appealed
in a bid to eliminate such rough justice. Women
protested against the delaying of Hussein's trial, and, then when the trial
was reconvened, Sudanese
police fired tear gas and beat women protesting outside the courtroom.
