Cartel Member Killed In El Paso Feared For His Life

A Mexican man who was allegedly killed on orders from his own
cartel believed they were hunting for him after he began working as an
informant and was fearful for his life, according to court documents. Jose
Daniel Gonzalez Galeana began to worry after he began working as an
informant for immigration officials in the United States.

“The victim was concerned for his own well-being and the safety
of his family,” the documents said, referencing statements the victim made
to a witness.

When Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials gave
Gonzalez a visa so he could live in El Paso, Texas, his fellow Juarez
cartel members began to get suspicious, El Paso Police Chief Greg Allen
said at a press conference.

Allen said Gonzalez’s exit from Mexico, combined with a raid on
a cartel warehouse and the arrest of cartel lieutenant Pedro “El Tigre”
Aranas Sanchez led cartel members to believe he might be working as an
informant, Allen said.

Then, a Mexican newspaper named Gonzalez as an informant in the
arrest of the high-ranking cartel member, according to court documents.
Police say Gonzales quickly became the target of his own cartel.

Police said Gonzalez knew if his fellow cartel members found
him, he would likely be killed, police said.

On May 15, the cartel found him.

The Creeping Homegrown Terror Threat

The arrest of seven North Carolina residents, including Daniel
Boyd and his two sons, on charges of supporting terrorism and conspiracy
to commit murder abroad, showed how the problem of homegrown Islamic
terrorism is far more rampant than the media or the public is aware of.
Just look at the major cases in the past year alone:

  • The convert from Long Island who joined al Qaeda (disclosed this
past week) and gave the group information about Long Island trains and
    New York City’s subways.
  • The plot to blow up two synagogues and a National Guard plane in
upstate New York by prison converts (scheduled to go to trial).
  • The plot to kill hundreds of soldiers at Fort Dix by assimilated
American Muslims living here 25 years (all convicted).
  • The plot to operate a terrorist training camp in Oregon (pleaded
    guilty).
  • The plot to blow up buildings by the Liberty City 7 (all convicted).

  • The sweeping conviction of Hamas officials for conspiring to support
    terrorism overseas.
  • The cases of young Somali teenagers raised in the U.S. going
    overseas to become suicide bombers.

The Boyd case in North Carolina proves that radical Islamic
ideology transcends economic class problems as has been claimed by
pointy-headed sociologists. The Boyd family was white, had a middle-class
existence, and had the economic opportunities afforded all Americans —
just like most of the terrorists cited above — and yet chose to engage in
jihad to the point that Daniel Boyd was willing to send his two kids on
suicide missions to Israel.

That the FBI stopped all these plots is amazing, but they
will never continue to bat a thousand. One of these days, the jihadists
will succeed.

Terror and Pakistan’s Nuclear Assets – Counterterrorism Blog

Every Pakistan watchers knew about those events. Bill Roggio
has highlighted these events in his reports too (esp. in Long War
Journal). But, Shaun Gregory (“The Terrorist Threat to Pakistan’s Nuclear
Weapons,” CTC Sentinel, Vol. 2 (7), July 2009) has analyzed these events
to expose the vulnerability of Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal, the “pillar of
Pakistan’s national security”.

The paper published in the CTC Sentinel (Combating Terrorism
Center, West Point) has triggered a pitched debate in the region and in
the Western World whether Pakistan’s nuclear infrastructures are secure or
not , especially in the face of those (mentioned below) terror attacks
that occurred in the last couple of years. Gregory’s article underscores
three terror strikes on nuclear weapons facilities in Pakistan,
questioning the physical security of the coveted nuclear assets:

“These have included an attack on the nuclear missile storage
facility at Sargodha on November 1, 2007, an attack on Pakistan’s nuclear
airbase at Kamra by a suicide bomber on December 10, 2007, and perhaps
most significantly the August 20, 2008 attack when Pakistani Taliban
suicide bombers blew up several entry points to one of the armament
complexes at the Wah cantonment, considered one of Pakistan’s main nuclear
weapons assembly sites.”

(Correction: The twin attack at the Wah Cantonment actually
took place on August 21, Thursday, 2008, not on August 20 as chronicled in
the paper).

Let’s revisit those terror events, all perpetrated by Taliban
and Al Qaeda elements.

Suspicious Buyers Put Scrap Metal Yards On Alert

Police have warned scrap yard managers to be cautious after a
group of suspicious scrap metal buyers visited a Council Bluffs yard. The
men paid cash for five vehicles and scrap metal last week at Rasmussen
Mechanical Services in Council Bluffs. The men said they were from Texas
and worked for a company called Consolidated Surplus.

[...]

“We’re not saying they aren’t legitimate, we’re saying their
company is not legit,” said Council Bluffs Sgt. David Dawson. “And the
business they’re doing appears to not be legit.”

There is no indication that this incident is terror
related at this time. The activity is of a suspicious nature and we’re
posting the story to create additional awareness. As always, if you see
anything suspicious, report it immediately.

Authorities’ suspicions were supported by the Michigan
Manufacturers Association, which alerted its members to a similar
situation. According to the association, a group of well-dressed men
purchased scrap metal and used machinery with cash. The men claimed to be
from a Texas company that later turned out to be bogus.
