Dear Friends and Readers:
As I write this, a British court has just found two parents guilty of having killed their daughter. The main witness against them was the victim's sister. A court in India has just sentenced ten men to death in an honor killing case. And, Palestinian woman's rights activists have just demonstrated against honor killing in the disputed territories and especially against the lax sentencing in such coldly calculated cases.
Perhaps the media is beginning to cover such cases more; perhaps there is actually an increase in the number of such cases. Women are testifying and demonstrating against this form of intimate human sacrifice.
I am sending you the link to a radio program which I did last night together with my co-author, Nathan M. Bloom, about our latest honor killing study. The work appears in Middle East Quarterly and compares Hindu and Muslim honor killings in India, Pakistan, and in the West.
Please enjoy the discussion.
All Best,
Phyllis
