Legal Project News Clips: 1/14/13 –1/20/13

The LP works to protect the right in the West to freely discuss Islam, radical Islam, terrorism, and terrorist funding.

News Clips that Shouldn't be Missed:
Imran Firasat (an LP client) case goes to the European Parliament
·       Bodissey, Baron.  "The Imran Firasat Case Presented at the European Parliament," Gates of Vienna Blog, January 15, 2013.
As a follow-up to the previous post, below is the presentation of the Imran Firasat case to the European Parliament yesterday in Strasbourg by MEP Gerard Batten of UKIP:
BBC builds a bunker to protect itself from suicide bombers
·       Gore, Alex.   "BBC bunker: News studios built in bomb proof room to protect it from suicide attacks," The Daily Mail (UK), January 13, 2013.
The BBC's new multi-million pound television news studio has been built to be bomb proof to protect journalists from suicide attacks.  The news room sits in a bunker under the main reception at the £1billion New Broadcasting House.
The PC argument to restrict Islam-related speech shredded by former LP Staffer
·       Harrod, Andrew E.  "Harris Zafar's Islamic Intellectual Incoherence," American Thinker, January 20, 2013.
Harris Zafar, national spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community USA, posted recently at the Washington Post's online Guest Voices blog the article "Making Islamic Sense of Free Speech." Review of Zafar's analysis shows that he makes no sense, Islamic or otherwise, at all with respect to free speech. If anything, Zafar deceptively offers justification for censorship all the while proclaiming respect for intellectual freedom.
UK scraps some hate speech laws
·       Shipman, Tim & James Slack.  "Blackadder preserves our right to be insulting: Ministers agree to amend laws after campaign led by Rowan Atkinson," The Daily Mail (UK), January 14, 2013.
Ministers agreed to scrap a law outlawing 'insulting words or behaviour' last night after a campaign led by comedian Rowan Atkinson.  Home Secretary Theresa May announced a dramatic U-turn yesterday saying the government would ditch the contentious words from the Public Order Act amid fears that they are strangling free speech.

Other Clips:
EDL Leader in hate speech trouble for insulting Islam
Kevin Carroll, the Chairman of the British Freedom Party, was arrested in Luton on Saturday for making a comment on Facebook.  "Boy oh boy, Baron," you say, "that must have been a really dangerous comment! What did he do? Call for killing people? Did he incite rebellion against Queen and country?"
Lady Gaga's burka offends the usual PC scolds
Lady Gaga seems to be on a roll. On Sunday evening, she not only pretended to shoot her audience up with guns on her breasts, but dressed up in a pink burka in what is seen by many in the blogosphere as a desperate attempt to cause controversy by offending the Muslim community. Well, it did work for the director of "Innocence of Muslims."
CAIR fails to intimidate Marylanders about speech
Maybe it was too nice out to protest. Or maybe no one cared what a few hundred conservatives were talking about in this one-party state. But only about 10 people convened Saturday with signs outside the DoubleTree Hotel in Annapolis to oppose Pamela Geller, best known for her opposition to the Ground Zero mosque and her ad campaigns linking the concept of jihad with mass murder. She was the opening speaker at the Maryland Conservative Action Network (MDCAN) conference held the same day at the hotel.
Gates of Vienna Blog taken down, presumably for its blogging on Islam
The Gates of Vienna blog has been removed without explanation by Google's blogspot platform.
Mannheimer in hate speech trouble again in Germany for criticizing Islam
Michael Mannheimer is one of Germany's leading critics of Islam. I've mentioned him a few times here. He has his own blog and writes for the huge German anti-Islam blog, Politically Incorrect. Mainstream German journalists from Die Zeit newspaper have also alleged that he is behind the Nuremberg 2.0 website, which aims to collate information with a view to future prosecutions of members of the elite for permitting the islamisation of their countries, taking the Nuremberg trials as its model. Mannheimer himself has denied being responsible for Nuremberg 2.0.
"Islamophobia" is a tactic increasingly used to restrict speech regarding Islam
Islamists, who have, like many others, found ways of influencing Western democracies, have refined one process in particular, called al Taqiyya [dissimulation], sanctioned to promote Islam to "unbelievers" or "infidels," if and when considered necessary. The word "Islamophobia," for instance, has been disguised and misused so frequently that when Westerners merely question Islam, or its role in terrorism, they risk being branded as "Islamophobes" or "racists."
