The following is but a sampling of state legislative firewalls that ACT! for America’s efforts have helped achieve, as we continue to educate state legislators across the country. American Laws for American Courts (protects US citizens from foreign law that specifically bars citizens from their Constitutional rights) – wins in 7 states, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arizona, Oklahoma, Kansas and North Carolina. A form of ALAC also passed in Washington State. Free Speech Defense Act (gives authors and other individuals free speech protection from foreign libel suits seeking to extradite US individuals to foreign nations for legal action) – wins in 9 states, Oklahoma, New York, South Dakota, Utah, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, California and Illinois. Andy’s Law (anti-material support for terror) – wins in 3 states, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana. Anti-Female Genital Mutilation Legislation (female circumcision ban) – wins in 2 states, Kansas and Louisiana. Refugee Resettlement Legislation (gives local municipalities control in refusing legal refugee resettlement into their communities) – win in Tennessee. ACT! for America could not have accomplished all these wins without your financial support. Because you answered the call to our fundraising appeals last year, ACT! for America was able to hire a full time state legislative lobbyist over the winter, who has taken on the aggressive goal of making quality “touches” with hundreds of legislators, either through private briefings or in formal legislative briefings for numerous elected officials and staffers in one setting. His efforts to educate state legislators have resulted in the passage of important legislation in many states – legislation that will protect our nation and our democratic freedoms. This effort will result in the passage of many more state laws. Laws that will continue to protect our very way of life – long after we’re gone – for the benefit of tomorrow’s generations.
