How did this convert to Islam get these ideas? We constantly hear that no Muslims in Western countries hold to the understanding of Islam represented by someone like al-Awlaki. So where did this “former rapper” get the idea that he was the best source from which to learn about “pure Islam”? I suppose he was “radicalized on the Internet,” like so many others? Why is it that the true, peaceful Islam has such little representation online?

And as for his statements about Infidels, it’s not just about tattoos and piercings. Remember that the Qur’an calls the People of the Book who do not accept Islam “the most vile of created beings” (98:6) and says that those who have disbelieved are “the worst of living creatures” (8:55).

In a video-clip posted online on June 20, 2014, a former Australian rapper presented as “Terry Wrist” imparts advice to new converts to Islam, suggesting that they attach themselves to people like American-Yemeni cleric Sheik Anwar Al-Awlaki. Calling the infidels “the dirtiest, filthiest, most disgusting people to walk the earth,” the Australian, wearing an ISIS bandana, glorified martyrdom, joking that there would be plenty of beer in Paradise.
Following are excerpts:
“Terry Wrist”: For the Muslims, especially those who are new, when they enter Islam… I know from experience that there are many different versions of Islam that are out there, and it can be very confusing.

The most important things is that you want to locate and attach yourself to people who are upon pure Islam. Sheik Anwar Al-Awlaki, Allah mercy upon him, was one of those people. He summed it up essentially when he said that there are real scholars who follow the path of [the Prophet Muhammad]. They may have been imprisoned, they may have been martyred, they may have gone underground, and they may not be on the satellite television channel, but nonetheless, they are scholars. So it is our job as laymen to go and investigate, and find those scholars who are upon the truth, who don’t water Islam down to appease the infidels.
Colleague: Give us some recommendations.
“Terry Wrist”: Oh, mate. Allah be praised. Basically, I recommend… Point number one: Go straight to Sheik Anwar Al-Awlaki – for English speakers.

I say to the Muslims: Investigate, seek knowledge. It’s your religious duty. Once you do that, do not be afraid to implement it. Do not fear the blame of the blamers. Especially if you are living in the West – the infidels are going to come at you with everything they have.
You see these infidels – from being in jahiliyya, they are some of the dirtiest, filthiest, most disgusting people to walk the earth, and they have no shame. They’ll go around, they have piercings all over their bodies, tattoos, doing disgusting acts – men sleeping with men, women with women, and so on and so forth. But they don’t have any shame. They walk down the street, and they are proud of their heresy. They are proud of their filth.
Yet you see some Muslims hiding away. They don’t want to show their Islam. They walk with their head down, scared, intimidated.

What can my enemies do to me? What can you do to me? If you put me in jail, I will sit here and remember my Lord. If you extradite me, Allah be praised, it’s a chance to travel to new lands. If you are going to kill me… You won’t kill me, because Allah says I am alive, receiving sustenance, I’ll be a martyr, Allah be praised. So what can you do to me? Absolutely nothing. This is the beauty of Islam. I would like to say to the non-Muslims that this is why you need to come to Islam.

So come to Islam, you will be my brother. Allah willing, we will immigrate to a better place. We won’t have to see these miserable people anymore. We will raise the banner of monotheism, and we will live under the shade of the shari’a…
