Last week's successful prevention of a terrorist attack merits Canadians' appreciation for the effective work of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Ontario Provincial Police and local police. Thanks are also due to the FBI, which alerted the RCMP Wednesday morning after learning of an online jihadi video pledging allegiance to ISIS and announcing his murderous intent.

The picture emerged from accounts of U.S. officials and others briefed on the operation: U.S. officials wouldn't let Iranians take control of the money until a Swiss Air Force plane carrying three freed Americans departed from Tehran on Jan. 17.

Russia is building large numbers of underground nuclear command bunkers in the latest sign Moscow is moving ahead with a major strategic forces modernization program.
U.S. intelligence officials said construction has been underway for several years on "dozens" of underground bunkers in Moscow and around the country.
