UANI Applauds Ansaldo Energia for Withdrawing From Iran-Italy Summit
(New York, NY) - United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) today applauded Italian energy engineering firm Ansaldo Energia S.p.A. - a global leader active on four continents in power plant construction, power equipment, manufacturing and services, and nuclear activities - for voluntarily withdrawing from the upcoming Iran-Italy Summit in Milan, at which attendees are slated to discuss ways to continue conducting business with Iran.
Following UANI's letter sent on November 29 in protest of its advertised participation in the December 13 conference, which will investigate "which sectors and areas of [the] Iranian economy are still attractive or appealing for EU firms," Ansaldo Energia confirmed it would cancel its plan to take part in this pro-Iran trade event. UANI urges the remaining Iran-Italy Summit participants to follow Ansaldo Energia's responsible decision.

The Iranian private sector is awash in front companies operating on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which was designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. Treasury Department in October 2017. Much of Iranian business exists in large part to finance the regime's terror proxies, human rights atrocities, and ballistic missile development program.

According to its 2017 financial statement, Ansaldo Energia enjoyed revenues in excess of €1.4 billion last year.

Ansaldo Energia's U.S. subsidiary, headquartered in Jupiter, Florida, Power Systems Mfg., was unaware of its Italian parent company's original but now canceled plans to participate in the Summit and is fully compliant with U.S. laws.

United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) is a non-partisan, broad-based coalition that is united in a commitment to prevent Iran from fulfilling its ambition to become a regional super-power possessing nuclear weapons.  UANI is an issue-based coalition in which each coalition member will have its own interests as well as the collective goal of advancing an Iran free of nuclear weapons.
